(openPR) - A county court in German city Cologne has granted Trabzonspor preliminary injunction against a Turkish online community for violating the licensing and branding rights of Turkish football club.
The Turkish online community’s website used to offer the club logo to its visitors to use on their mobile phones for a small fee without making any licensing agreements with the Turkish outfit.
The court also ruled that in case of contravention, the website would be fined up to €250.000 or the operators will face six-month detention.
"The violation of the trademark rights by this platform, asserted by the court shows how aggressively the existing branding rights of Trabzonspor are being exploited profitably" said attorney Hakan Taskin, who represents the interests of Trabzonspor in Germany. "This is not the only case concerning this problem. Following the completion of trademark proceedings, the Public Prosecutor’s Department could initiative preliminary proceedings for the abuse of Trademark Law" he added.
