Los Angeles and Chicago Custom Furniture Designers Offer A Design Grant For A Doozie Of A Design Challenge

Fashion, Lifestyle, Trends
Press release from: Mig and Tig
(openPR) - Students from the Harrington School of Design are getting ready to compete for a design grant funded by Chicago custom furniture store Mig and Tig of Chicago and Mortise and Tenon of Los Angeles. These furniture stores specialize in custom designer furniture from contemporary to traditional.

CHICAGO, IL - Forty plus students from Harrington College of Design will soon compete for a design grant jointly funded by custom furniture stores Mig and Tig of Chicago and Mortise and Tenon of Los Angeles. The grant will help two students further his or her studies at the Harrington College of Design. Over 40 students that study at Harrington will introduce themselves, find an object of inspiration that will ultimately incorporate into their product design.

"Sounds simple, but this will be a tough design competition, as students must meet difficult requirements, using ecological friendly materials, provided in a tight timeline. Students will understand the realities of what manufacturers, retailers and consumers demand in today's rapidly changing market place," says Harrington graduate, Vicki Semke and owner of Mig and Tig Furniture (www.migandtig.com).

Six judges will choose the best-designed piece based on design specs, material efficiency and aesthetics. "We are honored to be a sponsor of this design grant and to nurture the design community where the grass roots are, as good ecological design is food for the soul," says Jerod Lazan of Mortise and Tenon, Los Angeles, as he encourages his customers to watch and follow the ups and downs of the design process.

Mig and Tig Furniture specializes in custom furniture, but that wasn't always their focus. The company's name derived from welding terms when their business was solely making custom iron furniture. On the West coast, sister store, Mortise and Tenon, similarly, focused on wood products, as their store name derived from a wood joint and are also a custom furniture boutique.

Make a weekly visit to checkout the Project Lounge at migandtig.com/wordpress/ and www.mortisetenon.com to see Harrington students tread toward the finish line of this grueling competition these two boutique furniture retail leaders have set the high bar for.

About Mig and Tig: Mig and Tig (www.migandtig.com) is a Chicago custom furniture store and showroom that offers high quality contemporary furniture from domestic manufacturers at very competitive pricing.
