New Neurosonology and Neuroimaging Title Plays Key Role in Stroke Diagnosis and Treatment

Health & Medicine
Press release from: Thieme Publishers
(openPR) - New York/Stuttgart - Thieme Publishers announced today that Neurosonology and Neuroimaging of Stroke is now available. Ultrasound imaging plays a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular disease and especially stroke. It effectively assists physicians in the real-time evaluation of the cerebral vasculature, crucial after a patient suffers a stroke. This new book, accompanied by a DVD, offers both a brand new perspective on the principles of neurosonology and an essential casebook presenting a wide variety of must-know cerebrovascular conditions.

In the foreword of the book, Louis R. Caplan, MD, professor of neurology at Harvard University writes, "The present monograph fills a large void and will prove extremely useful for neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuroradiologists and for all physicians caring for patients with cerebrovascular diseases." The book, which covers new ground, showcases innovative applications that harness the whole power of ultrasound technology.

Neurosonology and Neuroimaging of Stroke is divided into two parts. Part A lays out the basic principles of cerebrovascular disease and neurologic ultrasound imaging, assisting the reader in acquiring a fundamental understanding of neurosonology. In part B, the more extensive of the two sections, the clinical advantages and disadvantages of a variety of vascular diagnostic methods are demonstrated in relation to ultrasound via 30 case histories selected from a broad field of neurovascular diseases. The detailed case studies range from acute stroke to vascular malformations.

More than 750 full-color, high-quality images and Doppler illustrations in the book are supplemented by almost 100 video clips of ultrasound examinations on the accompanying DVD, showing in simulated real time the pulsations and flow of blood in the cerebral vasculature. Technical aspects of clinical applications as well as the advantages and limitations of ultrasound are evaluated in reference to conventional angiography, MRI and CT angiography.

The new book offers neurologists, neuroradiologists and any physician treating patients with cerebrovascular disease and particularly stroke, a comprehensive and authoritative guide for diagnosis, and follow-up evaluation. It is a comprehensive reference tool with a state-of-the-art approach to using a standard diagnostic tool.
