(openPR) - Right from 1979, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, has set a benchmark in Industry University collaborations for addressing the Human Resource Development issue of various industries by launching an array of work integrated learning programmes to synergize the workplace requirements of the industry with the learning requirements of the university.
SAP Labs India is SAP's second largest Research & Development and Global Services & Support center in the world. Founded in November 1998, SAP Labs India is one of the four global development hubs (Germany, US and Israel being others) of SAP that contribute to all areas of the SAP product value chain- Research & Breakthrough Innovation, Product Development, Global Services & Support and Customer Solutions & Operations.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BITS and SAP was signed on 08 August 2008 with the objective of fostering collaboration between the two institutions to promote academic and research interactions. The MoU was signed by Mr Kush Desai Managing Director on behalf of SAP and Prof L K Maheshwari Vice Chancellor on behalf of BITS Pilani. BITS would offer educational avenues at various levels to meet the human resources development needs of SAP through its Off-Campus Work Integrated Learning Programs.
SAP would endeavor to make available the necessary facilities for the implementation and continuation of the Practice School Program of BITS Pilani after discussions between the two organizations.
A Coordination Committee consisting of Vice-Chancellor, BITS as Chairman, and two nominees each from SAP and BITS would plan, coordinate and monitor the academic and research programmes as well as all related operational matters within the framework of the academic regulations of BITS and the objectives outlined by SAP.
The grand inaugural function of the first batch of MS Software Engineering for the 39 candidates sponsored by SAP took place on o8 August 2008 at Bangalore.
After the welcome address by Mr Vemur Swaminathan of SAP, Mr Kush Desai MD SAP Labs gave an overview of SAP. Dr BR Natarajan Dean Work Integrated Learning Programmes from BITS Pilani explained in detail the BITS system of education highlighting the special features of the collaborative program with SAP Labs. This was followed by a video address by Markus Bell Head of Vocational Training and Bohmueller Anke from SAP Germany. Livius Ziethe was present at Bangalore representing the SAP Germany Vocational Training Team. Pooja Suresh Vocational Training Specialist highlighted the SAP Scholar program. Faculty members from BITS Pilani Bangalore Off Campus centre and other executives from SAP Bangalore attended the inaugural function.
In India today this tie up of BITS Pilani and SAP Labs Bangalore marks yet another milestone in coopeartive education between university and industry.
