(openPR) - Stunt-skater and roller derby entrepreneur Brian “Blade” Gallagher to purchase inline skating instruction business from founder Janet Miller Sheehan
Los Angeles, CA – August 19, 2008 -- California Skate School, Inc., the nation’s largest inline skating instructional program, today announced that founder and owner Janet Miller Sheehan has reached a stock purchase agreement with Brian Gallagher that will see Gallagher acquire all of the assets and property of California Skate School, Inc.
California Skate School operates adult and children’s inline skating classes, corporate employee programs, skating demonstrations, specialty clinics and fitness programs at locations throughout Southern California. Locations include universities, retailers, fitness facilities, city venues, parks and recreation programs, camps and schools.
Industry leader Rollerblade sponsors California Skate School, supplying inline skates and protective gear for students to use free-of-charge at each lesson.
“This is a significant step for both California Skate School and the inline skating industry,” said Miller Sheehan. “Brian’s energy, dedication and teaching experience make him the ideal leader to take California Skate School and fitness skating to the next level.”
Miller Sheehan started teaching inline skating classes in 1994 and grew her business through the grassroots. She incorporated California Skate School, Inc. in 1998 and was providing instruction to over 3,000 students per year at locations throughout Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties by the end of 1999.
“New skaters benefit from solid and friendly teaching offered by instructional programs like California Skate School,” said Kalinda Mathis-Bogue, Director of Marketing at Rollerblade. “We are thankful for Janet’s years of service, making inline skating a positive experience for so many people. And we are pleased to hear that Brian will continue that tradition, offering new skaters access to the same great instruction in Southern California.”
Brian “Blade” Gallagher, a Level 2 USSG certified instructor with over 19 years of teaching experience on inline and quad skates, has an extensive background as a stunt skater and skate coordinator for film and television, appearing in national commercials for Right Guard, Honda and Samsung and the Discovery Channel’s Perfect Partner. He is also the founder of the Professional Derby League (PDL), which aims to re-establish Roller Derby as a legitimate sport through sanctioned leagues and a structured format.
“Skating is my passion and I’m always looking for opportunities to introduce people to the sport and help them learn, grow and improve,” said Gallagher. “There’s no greater reward than seeing a smile on someone’s face as they progress in their skating ability. Building confidence, building a healthier lifestyle, and enjoying being on skates are what California Skate School is all about, and I’m excited to carry on that mission.”
Moving forward, Miller Sheehan will focus her attention on the United Skate Schools Group (USSG), a membership organization she created for skate schools, owners and instructors who provide education for the sports of inline skating, roller skating and skateboarding. The USSG offers certification programs, instructor education, business opportunities and various membership benefits.
