RHIEM Group celebrates its 50th

From small print shop to global fulfilment service provider: a success story “made in Germany”.

Voerde, 14 August 2008 - The RHIEM Group, an owner-run fulfilment service provider with headquarters in Voerde, celebrates its 50th anniversary this summer. What began in 1958 as a print shop in a house in Duisburg-Walsum, has developed within half a century into a worldwide service provider with collaborative partnerships in North America, Asia and Europe. In time for the company’s anniversary, a new 7,000 square-metre hall was acquired at the company’s headquarters in Voerde, to create space for further expansion.
The company’s roots lie in the printing firm founded by Franz Rhiem Sr. in 1958 in Duisburg-Walsum. Initially, the company worked in pre-press, supplying local printers. To make itself more independent and to set the course for further growth, Franz Rhiem invested in his own printing presses and transferred the company’s headquarters to Voerde. The risk paid off, with RHIEM Druck quickly becoming a prosperous company, moving into further areas, such as print processing. At the start of the 1990s, the emerging IT industry was the stimulus for RHIEM to offer its customers warehousing facilities and to provide product-related services, such as packing and, later on, blister-pack and software-box manufacture. The first customers in this area included Peter Norton, whose products were later absorbed by software giant Symantec, and Intuit UK, a subsidiary of Californian software company Intuit Inc.
