(openPR) - Between 1992 and 2008, there was no Formula One testing at Hockenheim. Last week, the teams made their return in preparation for the German Grand Prix. According to David Coulthard and Lewis Hamilton, it was not possible to do much more than work on the setup for the race weekend. “I don’t think we can learn a lot about the car here,” said Coulthard in conversation with motorsports-magazine.com. “It’s not a good circuit for testing and finding out about new components,” agreed Hamilton, bemoaning the lack of any really fast corners.

Not all the drivers shared this view. “You certainly can do useful testing here,” said Nico Rosberg. “In the Motodrom, you’re very dependent on your aerodynamics,” Adrian Sutil chimed in. “So it’s possible to find things out in this area.” But it’s not just the German contingent who see the merits of Hockenheim as a valid test track. “You can try out anything you want here,” Felipe Massa told motorsports-magazine.com. “Obviously, it’s not a particularly fast track for aerodynamic testing, but it’s in the same league as Jerez and several others.”

For this reason, Sutil would like to come back in 2009 for another F1 test: “I’m starting to feel I’ve had enough of Barcelona - and that’s after just one year in Formula One! I’m all in favour of Hockenheim. Massa would have no objections to an occasional change either: “Though in winter, it’s too cold here. We’d prefer to be in Spain then.”
