Press release from: Paragon Steel

LONG BEACH, CA (June 11, 2008)—Practically everywhere you turn, the world is turning “Green”—in fact, it’s now not only beneficial to the planet to protect and preserve it, it’s downright cool. In the business world, the result is a fast-growing industry inclusive of everything from solar and wind power companies to Green construction firms that are creating growth opportunities for companies with the right product, at the right time. Paragon Steel is one of those companies.

Since steel as a product is fully recyclable, it has become a popular choice for the growing number of Green companies. Paragon Steel has recently sold to solar and wind power technology companies that did not exist a few short years ago, as well as to:
-construction companies that specialize in Green construction where energy usage and waste is next to zero
-transportation companies that build alternative modes of transportation that will help reduce auto emissions
-manufacturing companies that make equipment to reduce emissions in factories and that generate power more efficiently

Sopogy, a leader in MicroCSP (Concentrating Power Systems) technologies used to create process heat, solar air conditioning or electrical power, is an example of this new steel customer. The company uses aluminum it purchases from Paragon Steel to manufacture smaller-scale parabolic-trough solar collectors designed for both the commercial industrial and smaller scale utility markets. The modules are mounted into an array that tracks the sun and circulates the heat transfer fluid. The array rotates into a protective downward-facing position at night and during inclement weather, making the system viable in environments previously thought to be too harsh for solar technologies.

Other companies that have used Paragon Steel product in their Green technology and services include:
• SunEdison, a leading provider of solar energy services that deliver renewable electricity to complement existing electricity for commercial, government and utility customers (these customers benefit by purchasing solar power from SunEdison rather investing in the equipment)
• TIC, a direct-hire, heavy industrial general contractor that provides world-class construction expertise in various areas, including renewable energy—wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar and ethanol (TIC has installed more than 1,000 wind turbines of various sizes throughout the U.S., has completed nearly every major geothermal project in the U.S. since the 1980s, and more)

“Previously Green-minded activists failed to inspire the broader public, not because they were wrong about the problems, but because the solutions they were offering were unappealing to most people,” says Jim Stavis, vice president and CFO of Paragon Steel, who is proud to serve customers like Sopogy. “They rejected technology, business and prosperity in favor of returning to a simpler life. Yet with global warming heating up, a new Green movement has become a burgeoning new enterprise—driven by technology and the companies creating remarkable new, earth-friendly products. Paragon Steel is thrilled to be a part of it.”
