Native Detroiter Ethnic Heritage and Phone Use

Thanks to the mobile smart phone, their "computer of choice," Native Detroiters are quite consumer tech savvy, meaning they have the ability to matriculate to business technology training easily. The mobile phone has closed the digital divide in Detroit - the gulf between those who have ready access to computers and the Internet, and those who do not.

Approximately, 96.3% of Native Detroiters own a cellphone and 86.8% own a smart phone higher than the national average of 77% of Americans, indicated in the 2017 Mobile Fact Sheet created by Pew Internet Research that own a smartphone An impoverished family can buy a good quality Android phone for $40 dollars and even get one for FREE from the FCC Lifeline program. (Uplift, Inc. is a new distributor of those Android phones.) A laptop costs $300 and a desktop computer $600.

Detroiters as always shown as poor destitute residents. This report provides a never seen view of the Native Detroiter as a consumer tech savvy person any company should be interested in employing to capture their skills.

Hired any Native Detroiters for your tech-related Jobs yet?

This data was noted in the report, Mobile Profile of the Native Detroiter, compiled from a survey of 25 questions completed by the 998 registrants of Automation Workz, a hands-on iSTEAM (invention, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) scavenger hunt held at the North American International Auto Show January 21, 2017. Automation Workz was established as a communication tool to expose family leaders and their teens to the high-tech skills necessary to matriculate into automation careers and post-secondary training. “It is a pleasure to return to my economists roots with this report”, states Ida Byrd-Hill President of Uplift, Inc. Ida has a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan and a MBA from Jack Welch Management Institute. “Properly interpreted data has the ability move communities to enlighten progress.”

As this report was compiled, we noted the ethnic demographics data was similar to the City of Detroit population demographics. Mobile Profile of the Native Detroiter provides insight into Native Detroiters usage of mobile apps driving the digital revolution. To discover more about the mobile habits of the Native Detroiter go to http://www.autoworkz.org and download the report.
