U.S. shockjock and former Al Jazeera author meet in the middle
Press release from: Edward Victor
(openPR) - Afshin Rattansi, former Al Jazeera “Top Secret” producer, has been talking to Conservative U.S. shock-jock Lars Larson about the recent Danish cartoon controversy and his new quartet of novels published in one volume, “The Dream of the Decade”
Talking about how international broadcast media often get stories wrong because of institutional structures, he described how one of the novels in “The Dream of the Decade” describes a young journalist’s baptism of fire as he learns how international television tries to understand complex stories before broadcasting them to millions.
Rattansi said on the syndicated show “Right on the Left Coast” that fear of militants plays into militants’ hands and talked about the long history of Muslim representations of the Prophet Mohammed. He also asked people to remember those who had died in demonstrations against the cartoon.
Rattansi’s debut novel looks at what guises fear takes in a London bar as drinkers are faced with a bomb threat, how it feeds into prejudices and how it affects relationships and ideas about politics.

“The Dream of the Decade” is available on Amazon.com and at www.zen13743.zen.co.uk.
Lars Larson is the Peabody and Emmy Award winning host of Westwood One’s The Lars Larson Show, which can be heard Monday through Friday on KSL Newsradio 1160.
Afshin Rattansi is a Sony Award winning journalist who has worked for the BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera. “The Dream of the Decade” is his debut work of fiction.
