Press release from: Queer Control Records
(openPR) - San Francisco, May 22, 2008 — Queer Control Records (QCR) is pleased to announce that its five resident bands will be touring the West Coast of the U.S. at the beginning of the Summer 2008. Beginning in Portland on May 30, 2008, the “Pass the Torch” Tour will continue to Seattle, Olympia, Eureka, Riverside, Long Beach, and will end in the label’s hometown, San Francisco. The San Francisco show of the Tour will be held at El Rio on Friday, June 6, 2008 and will be featured as part of the 11th Annual National Queer Arts Festival..

The QCR artists that will be participating in the “Pass the Torch” Tour include Pariah Piranha, a queer girl band from York, PA; Tough Tough Skin, a trans-guy band from Minneapolis, MN; 8 Inch Betsy, a queer girl band from Chicago, IL; Fruit Punch, a queer punk band from Philadelphia, PA, and Oi-Gays, a queer girl band from San Francisco, CA. Pariah Piranha will release its second full-length album “Animus Unanimus” in April 2008. 8 Inch Betsy released its first full-length album “Last Time, This Time, Every Time” in February 2008. Tough Tough Skin released its first full-length album “Let It Sink Down” in March 2008.

“QCR is all about reenergizing queercore music and serving as a platform for some of the amazing queer bands out there. These guys are better than a lot of indie bands that are blowing up in the ‘straight’ world. It is our hope that the resources and support we can offer our bands will help to bridge that gap,” described QCR Co-founder and President/CEO Marlene Melendez. “The ‘Pass the Torch’ Tour is the label’s first major tour and is intended to showcase some of the talent of the new generation of queercore.”

QCR is an independent non-profit (501c3 status pending) record label for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and questioning (LGBTIQQ) community. Since May 2007, QCR has existed for the purpose of providing charitable assistance to LGBTIQQ musicians. QCR provides support services to and sponsors public performances featuring LGBTIQQ and other musicians.

When we formed Queer Control Records, our goal was simple: to bring you the best music you haven’t heard…yet. In the changing environment of independent punk music, we’re here to provide an outlet for emerging artists to share their visions. We are extremely dedicated and eager to work towards this goal.

We are here to be the PA system for the next voice of music. We’d like to inspire both young and older musicians. Those new to the music scene will find encouragement to establish their own voice, while older artists will be shown a way to rediscover their original motivation.

At Queer Control, we recognize and respect the visionaries who have come before us. They have inspired us to strike out on our own and represent the next generation of GLBTIQ musicians. Our team, based out of San Francisco, California, is comprised of passionate young professionals. Many of us are musicians ourselves. Because of this, we bring forward a unique blend of strong business management skills coupled with insightful creativity.

We’re currently representing some fantastic new talent, such as Pariah Piranha, 8 Inch Betsy,Oi-Gays, Fruit Punch and Tough Tough Skin. Feel free to join us in the revolution!
