Private Equity in Film Financing
Press release from: Stories of Faith Ltd.
(openPR) - European Producers should also use the opportunity to finance films by means of private equity, demanded Jonathan Olsberg, experienced producer and distributor of films by Godard, Verhoeven, Greenaway and Cox, at the Film Finance Summit in Berlin The event brought together European producers to exchange their ideas on the eve of the Berlinale film festival. Olsberg characterized the business model of the Irish media fund Stories of Faith as exciting and innovative. He particularly emphasized the overall structure and the clarity of the project and pointed out that it was high time to try such new approaches. The international film expert consults for the European film commissions and British television networks and has a background as New York investment banker.
Carola Klessen, Vice President of Stories of Faith Ltd., emphasized the entrepreneurial chances associated with the production of large scale projects, which manifest themselves already. She stressed the interests of many private and institutional investors, who are looking for investments in the field of media. They require a certain size of project to be a viable and suitable investment vehicle. Apart from a sound industry knowledge and marketing savy, the most important thing, she said, was the selection of the topic. The Irish fund Stories of Faith offers a private placement of 76 Mio. Euro and is planning to produce a series of feature films about the large world religions. We need a vision, says Klessen, and hopes that the audience will not only appreciate the cinematic perfection, but also the project’s overall spirit of tolerance.
