(openPR) - Beijing, May 10, 2008: EBS Alumni is proud to announce the inception of its China Office, the first overseas office of any German alumni club. Approved by unanimous Board decision, the move ushers in the second phase of the EBS Alumni globalization strategy, an ambitious multi-year blueprint for international expansion. Besides meeting growing communication needs for Chinese universities and alumni clubs, EBS Alumni China Office is already being viewed as a positive development for civil society dialogue between Germany and the People’s Republic of China.
“China is a global priority market for EBS Alumni” said Mr. Martin Hess, EBS Alumni Chairman, in his inaugural address. “As Germany’s leading business alumni association, our 2,300 members, partners and society at large continue to place ever more challenging demands on us in terms of customer service and visibility of our brand name in key markets – and rightly so. These new premises in the heart of Beijing will open a new space for engagement and cooperation with China’s rapidly growing alumni club scene.”
“With German and Chinese know-how in alumni management now joining hands, our founders’ principles of transparency, long-term commitment and the ability to listen have reconfirmed their unequivocal role in the age of globalization. Vindicated in over thirty years of alumni service leadership, these principles will be the bedrock of our success in China and the rest of the world” continued the Chairman. Under his watch since 2006, EBS Alumni has grown into a world-class organization.
We are also pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Lu Vivien Liu as Resident Representative China. In that role, she will report to Dominik F. Schlossstein, EBS Alumni Director International Relations.
A non-profit and tax-exempt association under German civil law, EBS Alumni is the official alumni club of the European Business School International University (EBS, www.ebs.edu), one of Germany’s foremost business schools. The alumni provide more than 200,000 Euro (300,000 USD) per year in student scholarships and organize high-profile seminars, regular member-only sessions and debates. In 2008 alone, we handed out seven scholarships to Chinese students, enabling them to take advantage of a quality education abroad. Drawing on research by the recently established EBS Alumni Institute, we have also developed into an important advocate for globalization of teaching, research and life-long learning in Germany and beyond.
Located in Beijing’s coveted Dong Chen district, EBS Alumni China Office will play a key role in enhancing cooperation with the European Business Schools’ all-star cast of partner universities in mainland China and Hong Kong, i.e. Beijing University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Tongji University, Tsinghua University, University of Hong Kong, Zhejiang University, and Xi’an Jiaotong University. Moreover, the office is a bridgehead for high-tech start-up companies led by EBS graduates now eying the Chinese market.
