(openPR) - With version 4.0 of its PDF Library “Virtual Print Engine“, IDEAL Software has released a free Community Edition, which allows the unrestricted use within commercial applications.
The Community Edition is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris.
The library enables developers to compute the dimensions of text- and image objects in advance and to position other objects accordingly, so the document layout can be adapted dynamically to the content of objects. In addition word- and page breaks are computed automatically, and new objects can be added to any page at any time.
The Community Edition ships with .NET and ASP.NET components, an ActiveX, VCL and DLL / Shared Object, together with demo source codes and extensive help files.
The Windows version has an integrated print engine, so documents can be displayed in a preview or printed / e-mailed directly. The print engine computes printer-independent exactly positioned WYSIWYG output, which is for example ideal to print or fill-in forms.
Higher editions provide enhanced features like encryption, compression, font-embedding, RTF import, charts, 1D and 2D barcodes, insertion and deletion of pages, as well as the export to all common bitmap formats and to HTML.
IDEAL Software is developing system-software for more than 15 years. The company is located in the city Neuss - situated near the Rhine river and among the environs of Düsseldorf and Cologne. The product line of IDEAL Software focuses in the field of electronic-documents. Selected customers are BMW, Daimler, the Dresdner Bank, Boing, the NASA and Mobil Oil – to name a few. In cooperation with the German Federal Tax Authority the product 'Virtual Print Engine' is integrated into the software called ELSTER - which is used throughout the whole country for online processing and submission of tax returns.
