(openPR) - DALLAS – Jeff Tillotson, name partner in the Dallas-based litigation boutique Lynn Tillotson Pinker & Cox, LLP, is featured in the May edition of D CEO magazine as one of the top corporate attorneys in Dallas.
In an article titled "The Advocates," D CEO takes a look at the careers of five attorneys while focusing on what makes them successful at trial and their advice for executives facing litigation.
For Mr. Tillotson, the article says, success can be summed up in his fearless approach to litigation.
"If you’re scared of the opposition, then your client shouldn’t have hired you in the first place," he says. "No one should be denied a good lawyer simply because their cause is unpopular."
Mr. Tillotson’s track record includes successfully representing embattled former Dallas Independent School District superintendent Bill Rojas in litigation against the school district, and Ford Motor Co. in the Crown Victoria product-liability litigation. He also represented the sports marketing company SCA Promotions in a dispute with Lance Armstrong over bonus payments for winning the Tour de France.
"If I was ever going to back down from a challenge it might have been that one because it put me at odds with my own mother, who is a cancer survivor and certainly let me know how she felt about what I was doing," says Mr. Tillotson of the Lance Armstrong litigation. "Plaintiff’s lawyers can smell fear. But if you can overcome the fear of crossing your mom, then there’s nothing that anyone can bring to the courtroom that should ever stop you."
Lauded in the article for his extraordinary flexibility in court, Mr. Tillotson likens trial to an athletic contest where "momentum can shift … and you have to be able to make changes." This approach has earned him a reputation as a go-to lawyer for a number of Fortune 500 companies.
Despite what he describes as "some of the most difficult facts and worst witnesses I ever had" at trial, Mr. Tillotson prevailed in his defense of Visa USA and Visa International in an Internet defamation case brought by Zixit Corp. The win earned him a place on The National Law Journal’s "Defense Wins of the Year" list in 2003.
