Hermosa Beach Soccer Club Seeks Volunteers for L.A. Watts Summer Games
Press release from: Hermosa Beach Soccer Club
(openPR) - The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) today announced that it is seeking volunteers to assist with the L.A. Watts Summer Games – Boys and Girls Soccer Tournaments.
The 2008 LAWSG Boys and Girls Soccer Tournaments, hosted by the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce (www.lajcc.org) and supported by HBSC, will take place June 7, 8, 14 and 15 at Columbia Park in Torrance, CA. The tournaments have moved to Columbia Park and will not be played at the Ferraro Soccer Complex, as previously announced.
The boys and girls tournaments are open to all U.S. high school teams. Teams are guaranteed three games over two days. The girls’ tournament will be held Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, 2008. The boys’ tournament will be held Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15, 2008. Registration information is available at www.lajcc.org/lawsg. Registration per team is $195.
“I look forward to the Games every year. There is nothing like volunteering time and watching some of Southern California’s best soccer teams,” said Jesse Torres, Club founder. “The competition is incredible. Many of the young men and women participating will be moving on to the collegiate level and some will move on to Major League Soccer.”
“Having the L.A. Watts Summer Games Soccer Tournaments played in our back yard is so appropriate,” said HBSC President Brian Dragich. “The American soccer scene was born in Torrance and the greater South Bay. Having such a prestigious tournament in our community speaks to the continued support that our residents have for the sport. We are looking forward to having local fans of the sport volunteer some of their time to such an incredible and rewarding event.”
Volunteers need not have extensive soccer knowledge. Volunteers are tasked with keeping score and monitoring game progress. Individuals can volunteer just a few hours, an entire day or the entire weekend. All volunteers receive t-shirts for their service. Experienced referees are also needed. Individuals can volunteer for the soccer tournament by visiting www.lajcc.org/lawsg/volunteers.html, by calling Irene Garcia at (213) 989-2152 or by emailing Irene Garcia at ireneg@lajcc.org.
The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club extends its gratitude to its generous 2007/2008 sponsors: Del Amo Construction (DelAmoConstruction.com), Elliott/Drinkward Construction (ElliottDrinkward.com), TomatoBank, N.A. (TomatoBank.com), Coastline Steel (CoastlineSteel.com), Quality Seafood (QualitySeafood.net), SCS Engineering Inc (SCSEngineering.com) and FFI Soccer Magazine (FFISoccer.com).
The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club was founded in 2000. Located in Los Angeles’ South Bay, HBSC is home to men’s Premier, Over-30 and Over-40 teams as well as a women’s Premier team.
