(openPR) - St. George Episcopal Church will Feature Los Angeles Vocal Soloist and Pasadena Poet
(PASADENA, CA)— To bring awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month, St. George Episcopal Church is hosting “Mystical Songs and Poetry Concert” on Saturday, April 12, at 4:00 p.m. Benefiting Hillsides, a 95-year-old foster care children’s charity in Pasadena, the proceeds will provide much-needed services and programs to children affected by abuse and neglect. St. George Church will feature performances by Mezzo Soprano Veronica Christenson and Urban Poet Mary Torregrossa.
Christenson has been a featured vocal soloist throughout Southern California and is most noted for her roles as "Baba" in The Medium, "Annina" in La Traviata, and as "Pallade/Athena" in Monteverdi’s Coronation of Popea. She has appeared nationally and internationally as the featured soloist for Radio Moscow, the Northridge Singers University Choir, the Camerata of Los Angeles, and the Anglican Choral.
Christenson is well known for her interpretations of early church music, as well as the music of J.S. Bach. In addition to giving recital performances, Christenson is a frequent guest artist of the Desert Springs Symphony Orchestra in Palm Springs, California. In 2006 she made her Los Angeles Opera debut as a featured soloist in the World Premier production of “Grendel”, directed by Julie Taymor. Having appeared in over 50 productions with Los Angeles Opera, this year marks Christenson’s tenth season as a member of the Los Angeles Opera Chorus.
A member of the Emerging Urban Poets of Pasadena, Torregrossa has read poetry in many of the group’s workshop anthologies. Additionally, she is a member of the EchoSpace Poetry Collective and has read her work with the group on the Pacifica Radio station, known as KPFK. Along with her chapbook of early poems, Sleeping With Roses, Torregrossa has been published in the online magazines, Rhode Island Roads and Poeticdiversity.
The event to benefit foster care children will be held at St. George Church located at 808 Foothill Boulevard in La Canada. Suggested donations of $20 per ticket or a patron donation can be sent to Connie Grisham at St. George Church.
