(openPR) - Project managers use TPG ProjectDeputy to assign permissions to deputies or managers of sub-projects – no administrator needed

Munich, Germany. 26 March 2008 – TPG The Project Group GmbH, the world’s leading provider of products for Microsoft Project, announced today that it has developed a new product for Microsoft Project Server 2007. TPG ProjectDeputy enables project managers to easily transfer write permissions for their projects to their deputies or to managers of sub-projects – without needing to ask an administrator for support. This facility saves them a lot of time while making it much easier to organize teams for large projects. It also ensures that configuration errors are avoided and reduces the workload of the Microsoft Project Server administrator. TPG ProjectDeputy is available now from TPG.

In Microsoft Project Server, the permissions system only gives write permissions to the person who has created the project – the ‘project owner’. If he or she wants to give write access to other people working on the project, the administrator has to configure it manually within Project Web Access. If there are a lot of projects on the Project Server - and in large companies there almost always are - manual configuration becomes more and more confusing and time-consuming. This is where TPG ProjectDeputy can help.

Using TPG ProjectDeputy, project managers can give the desired permissions to their deputies or to managers of sub-projects with no need for intervention by an administrator. They can do this themselves with an easy-to-use interface in Project Web Access. “We developed this new product to give our customers more flexibility,” commented Johann Strasser, managing director and head of development at TPG. “It’s ideal for the growing number of companies setting up centralized Project Management Offices, which need to give project-specific user permissions to managers for the projects that have been created centrally. Another way TPG ProjectDeputy can be used is to easily specify who is standing in for a project manager while he or she is on vacation.”
TPG ProjectDeputy also reduces the Microsoft Project Server administrator’s workload while helping to avoid errors in the permissions system and increasing acceptance of the project management solution.
