OpenEMM Version 5.4 e-mail marketing software improves usability and supports extra languages

Munich, March 12, 2008. OpenEMM, the world’s first professional open source e-mail marketing software, is currently registering around 4,500 downloads a month from across the globe. This places OpenEMM among the Top 50 of over 1,800 enterprise software projects listed on the open source portal Sourceforge.net. OpenEMM is now available for download as Version 5.4.

This version has been preceded by a four-week test phase of release candidates in the open source community. Numerous new features facilitate professional sending of e-mail newsletters and e-mail shots by the user. At the same time, this new version incorporates additional language support.

In addition to English, German and French, the user interface can now be displayed in Spanish and Portuguese to cater for the ongoing international increase in popularity. The newsletters themselves can be created in any language (including, for example, Chinese and Russian) since OpenEMM offers full UTF-8 character encoding.

To simplify the first steps with OpenEMM for the user, a range of standard content has now been provided within OpenEMM. This gives access to prefabricated layout templates that can be filled out without requiring any HTML knowledge. Also included are standard forms for subscription and unsubscription on the user’s own website. To allow users to profit from future new versions of OpenEMM, from Version 5.4 on, Linux Version users can update to the newest version at a click of a mouse.

As well as the ‘double opt-in’, ‘confirmed opt-in’ and ‘single opt-in’ procedures for entering subscribers into a mailing list, OpenEMM 5.4 also supports registration per e-mail. The possibility to send new subscribers the latest issue of the newsletter immediately after registering is also a useful feature.

For advanced e-mail marketers, an interface has been created to allow integration of self-written scripts into OpenEMM, permitting implementation of the user’s self-developed functionality. Installation of OpenEMM has also become easier, since Linux users can now refer to a helpful installation script.

OpenEMM 5.4 for Windows and Linux is immediately available free of charge for download under www.openemm.org.
