(openPR) - PLANO, TEXAS – February 21, 2008 – Prestonwood Surgery Center, one of North Texas’ most advanced outpatient surgical facilities, is now open in The Texas Clinic at Prestonwood at Plano Parkway and Marsh Lane in Plano. The Center has been specifically designed and developed to meet patient needs, providing a “close to home”, comfortable and safe environment in which North Texans can have surgery performed. Patient comfort and personal service in the preoperative and postoperative settings are paramount and fully integrated into the core philosophy of both Center and staff.

Prestonwood Surgery Center supports a wide variety of surgical specialties including bariatric lap-band surgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, podiatric surgery, urologic surgery, otorhinolaryngologic and ophthalmologic surgery, in addition to pain management and gastroenterologic procedures. However, according to Pam Johnson, Prestonwood Surgery Center Adminstrator, this is only part of the story. “Our people are what makes Prestonwood Surgery really special,” Ms. Johnson said. “Every doctor and anesthesiologist practicing here is fully credentialed by the Center. Plus our highly experienced complement of Registered Nurses, OR Technical staff, instrument specialists and support staff are committed to the philosophy of caring for patients in the way that we’d like to be cared for. This is the experience that we hope to bring to each of our patients.” As an added benefit, should pre or post-operative testing be ordered by physicians, the proximity of some of the region’s most advanced testing and diagnostic equipment in The Texas Clinic at Prestonwood, including the Clinic’s SOMATOM Definition 128-Slice Dual Source CT scanner and 3-Tesla Magnetom MRI, will provide both convenience and state-of-the-art resources.

The surgical facility itself is thoroughly planned, and when fully complete will provide four spacious operating rooms, two minor surgery rooms and two fiber optic endoscopy rooms. The surgical suites, known as OR1Ô, use the latest in electronic control systems to seamlessly integrate devices and environmental components of the operating room, including overhead mounting systems, lighting, operating room tables, endoscopic equipment, cameras, image capture systems and information networks. The OR1Ô system , developed and installed by Karl Storz Endoscopy-America, Inc., brings all of these technologies under the direct control of the surgical team. The suites are specifically designed to maximize the benefits of Minimally Invasive Surgery, facilitating faster patient recuperation, shorter stays and reduced costs. By integrating state-of-the-art operating room devices into a single touch-screen interface, more patient information is also brought to the surgical team.

Beyond this, Prestonwood Surgery Center’s suites provide broad capabilities in the emerging field of telemedicine, including sophisticated video teleconferencing, interlinking operating rooms and electronic capture and archival of patient data. “Leading surgeons from around the world will be able to monitor procedures from their offices and contribute their expertise in real-time, thanks to these advanced capabilities,” noted Ms Johnson. Suites will also feature 1080p High Definition monitors, which visualize the field of view for physicians. These cutting-edge, state of the art monitors are found in no other surgical facility – hospital or surgery center – in North Texas.

From their arrival, visitors will find striking, modern décor, with color design specifically chosen for its calm, warm effect on patients. The Center has sheet vinyl floors throughout, with patterned inlays providing not only visual interest, but also direction and guidance to visitors. Geometric shapes add to the overall modern feel of the facility. In addition, Prestonwood Surgery features a beautiful patient and family-centered arrival and waiting area, as well as ground floor access with a covered front door drive through – making drop-off and pick-up easy, with parking just steps from the building.

Open weekdays, Prestonwood Surgery Center accepts most private insurance plans. The Center is located in The Texas Clinic at Prestonwood at the corner of Plano Parkway and Marsh Lane in Plano, TX (6957 W. Plano Parkway, Suite 2000).
