NSW Infrastructure Plan Facilitates a Growing Sydney

10-28-2016 10:06 AM CET | Industry, Real Estate & Construction

Press release from: Expotrade

As part of the NSW government’s commitment towards infrastructure development as the bedrock of a growing Sydney, the government has committed over $73.3 billion into infrastructure works over four years. Infrastructure projects currently in the pipeline are expected to expand and upgrade a wide range of crucial roads, rails, supply chain infrastructure as well as schools and hospitals in Sydney and throughout the state.
With economic and financial capacity directed to infrastructure projects across the state, the government has allocated substantial funds for various major projects.
$338 million has been set aside for road upgrades to support the new Western Sydney Airport in Badgerys Creek. Stimulating major economic activity, it is estimated that by 2063 the new airport will create 60,000 jobs, generating billions of dollars in economic activity for the state as a whole.
Sydney’s WestConnex will receive $2.9 billion in funding. The project aims to keep Sydney moving by creating jobs, easing congestion and connecting communities.
With Sydney’s population expected to grow by 1.6 million over the next two decades, $1.6 billion has been allocated towards the CBD and South East Light Rail Project. The modern, efficient transport system will transform the city by offering a high capacity, reliable and a sustainable mode of public transport. Other rail projects in the works for the state include the $64 million Parramatta Light Rail system and a suburban rail network.
As part of wider discussions on the latest and most significant transport projects taking place across the state, the 8th Annual NSW Major Projects Conference 2016 will be taking place at Dolton House, Hyde Park, Sydney.
Attracting over 200 delegates each year, the conference will include presentations from more than 25 keynote speakers on topics such as the development of road infrastructure, high-rise construction and sustainable initiatives.
The NSW Major Projects Conference will see updates on the $3 billion dollar NorthConnex project and the $16.8 billion WestConnex project. NorthConnex will link Sydney’s north to the orbital network and remove up to 5000 trucks a day from Pennant Hills Rd. The WestConnex project aims to keep Sydney moving by creating jobs, easing congestion and connecting communities.
With many high-rise and skyscraper construction projects looming for NSW, Senior Lecturer Dr Philip Oldfield from the UNSW Built Environment will address the future of skyscraper construction in the country. The presentation will consider different factors in high-rise planning in Australian cities, reflecting on whether skyscrapers could be the answer to the affordability crisis in cities.
The Australian and NSW governments are funding the 10 year, $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan (WSIP) to improve road reliability, capacity and connectivity ahead of future traffic demand. General Manager – Western Sydney Program Office, Dr. Kevin Doherty from the NSW Roads and Maritime Services will discuss the development of the new Western Sydney Airport as well as the new employment, priority growth and priority land release areas.
Sustainable and green initiatives form a crucial part of the agenda. The conference will examine green initiatives currently underway. NSW’s largest 175 megawatt wind farm consisting of 119 turbines will supply power to more than 75000 homes and help NSW meet its Renewal Energy Targets. The essential ingredients for the construction of smart cities will also be examined as the conference looks at developing NSW’s future cities.
The conference is an opportunity for industry leaders and government officials to share common ideas on major projects across the state and learn about the latest infrastructure projects taking shape in NSW from expert speakers.
The 8th Annual NSW Major Projects Conference 2016 will be held on the 15th and 16th of November at Dolton House, Hyde Park in Sydney.
