(openPR) - West Byfleet, Surrey - 5 February 2008 - Top slot in the shopping site category in the Yahoo! UK Finds of the Year awards 2007 has gone to an Actinic-powered online store specialising in environmentally-friendly products. Nigel Berman, proprietor of Hove-based Nigel’s Eco Store (nigelsecostore.com) believes his victory, in the face of stiff competition in the retail sector “reflects the general increase in demand for eco products”.
The Eco Store site was nominated independently for the Yahoo! awards. The awards highlight some of the most interesting and innovative sites of the year, based on a number of factors, including functionality, design and the ‘wow factor’ - how original, quirky, creative, interesting and inspirational the site was. They were judged by a panel of journalists and industry experts chosen for their knowledge of the internet.
According to the panel, “There are so many great, innovative shopping sites around these days, but Nigel's Eco Store came out on top. Not only was the idea really unique and engaging, the judges also loved the layout of the site and felt it was distinctive in concept and differed from other shopping sites. In fact, this was one of the favourite sites overall, fitting perfectly with a shopping site's goal and society's ecological outlook.”
Actinic CEO Chris Barling remarks, “Eco-friendliness may not be the most important reason why more and people are choosing to shop online, but it’s importance is undoubtedly growing. With concern about climate change rising, everyone is wanting to take more responsibility for their carbon footprint. Ecommerce is widely perceived as being more environmentally friendly than other channels, and so we are especially proud to be associated with Nigel's Eco Store.”
About Nigel’s Eco Store
Nigel’s Eco Store was founded in 2005 by Nigel Berman, a former chartered accountant who developed an interest in ecological issues twenty years ago while travelling in Australia. After several years working in publishing, Nigel decided to start selling environmentally-friendly products after discovering for himself how difficult they could be to source. His online store, (www.nigelsecostore.com) initially set up as a sideline, became the cornerstone of the business. “A website is far more green than a brick-built shop or mail order,” he claims. Rapid growth quickly necessitated a change from his basic shopping cart to a more scaleable ecommerce platform, and Nigel switched to the award-winning Actinic Business software that still drives his site. “It links directly to our accounts package,” he says, “which is a big time-saver because orders don’t have to be re-entered.”
