Press release from: Panduit

PANDUIT™ presents the new NET-ACCESS™ Server Cabinet at Data Centre World exhibition on 26 – 27 February 2008 in Barbican, London.
The cabinet, a result of technology development collaboration between PANDUIT and strategic alliance partner IBM, offers radically improved performance, in terms of cable management, cooling efficiency and grounding, over previous generation server cabinets.

Charles Newcomb, business development manager at PANDUIT, commented, “The latest server technologies have increased the implementation challenges that data centre managers face. Cooling requirements, power consumption and cabling arrangements have all increased or become more complex. Server cabinets have traditionally offered limited cable management and accessibility, restricted airflow to equipment, and required complex grounding arrangements. Through a technology partnership with IBM, PANDUIT Laboratories has developed the NET-ACCESS™ Server Cabinet. The NET-ACCESS™ Server Cabinet addresses all of these challenges, while ensuring swift implementation and reliable operation.”

Cooling Efficiency
PANDUIT Laboratories worked with IBM to develop and verify the enhanced thermal management features of the NET-ACCESS™ Server Cabinet. The cabinet ensures that the industry recommended clearance is maintained between equipment and cabinet walls by properly routing cables away from ventilation pathways. Air blocking features ensure cold air is directed to the servers and superior cable management eliminates cable and power cord congestion behind the servers allowing server fans to more efficiently exhaust air, door perforation patterns ensure heat is dissipated effectively. All of these standard features add up to greatly improved network performance and availability as well as enhanced power efficiency.

The optional NET-ACCESS™ Cooling Door, developed utilising IBM liquid cooling expertise, provide further effectiveness in economically removing heat from the data centre, by allowing additional cooling of up to 20 kw per cabinet. When compared to forced-air cooling options, the NET-ACCESS™ Cooling Door contains fewer moving parts, consumes less energy, and provides a migration path to increased server densities. This technology has been performance tested and verified in third party laboratories and successfully deployed in data centres throughout the world.

Cable Management
NET-ACCESS™ Server Cabinets have inset frame posts, creating large and accessible vertical pathways for routing cables and mounting vertical patch panels and Power Outlet Units (POUs), while cable management fingers align with rack spaces to support and provide bend radius control for cables. This design provides the ultimate in modular cable management and accessibility, speeds installations, and improves aesthetics to showcase network investment. When cabinets are ganged together, a large centre pathway is created providing unobstructed access to cables and equipment. These features make moves, adds, and changes easier than ever, increasing network availability and saving money.

Grounding
The NET-ACCESS™ Server Cabinet features a fully integrated, electrically bonded structure to maximise uptime, maintain system performance, and protect network equipment and personnel. The NET-ACCESS™ Server Cabinet is compatible with PANDUIT STRUCTUREDGROUND™ grounding system.

To see how PANDUIT has revolutionised the network cabinet, offering an integrated solution to address all of these needs, visit us at Data Centre World on 26 – 27 February at Barbican, stand 72.
