TucsonFilmmaker.com officially launches in February – Website already rich with content that is helpful to local filmmakers in all areas of production.

Tucson, AZ, January 29, 2008: Tucson’s potent filmmaking community now has a new, valuable resource: Tucson Filmmaker Magazine. The web-zine, which officially launches February 1st, aims to provide an all-in-one meeting place for filmmakers in Southern Arizona. Writers, directors, musicians, actors, costume designers, and film-buffs alike are all urged to visit, and contribute to, the magazine’s online home at TucsonFilmmaker.com.

‘TFM’ is produced by local filmmakers for local filmmakers and will look to its readers for much of the publication’s content. Visitors of TucsonFilmmaker.com can check out reviews of local events, comprehensive YouTube playlists, a versatile events calendar, and blog-like columns written by the website’s creators. Like with most popular websites in today’s age, users are urged to supply the site with the content – Filmmakers can send links to their personal YouTube movies for inclusion in the player, list screening information on the calendar, post a casting call notice, and trade gear on the message board’s classifieds section, and that’s just the beginning.

“Tucson’s got all of the elements needed to really explode,” says Phillip Lybrand, the web-zine’s founder, “We could be the next Austin.” Lybrand, a local filmmaker and graduate of UA’s Media Arts program, started the magazine after a conversation with Shipherd Reed, local film event reviewer for AZNightBuzz.com. Reed expressed a desire to have a comprehensive destination online where films featured in local screenings could be viewed. “Shipherd and I met up to go over some ideas for the website and I just kind of ran with it,” Lybrand explains, “I was like, ‘why stop with YouTube?’ - we do something really cool here.” Shipherd Reed’s blog, “In Film We Trust,” is now syndicated on the TFM website. Other contributers include Micah Roland and Ray Thomas, the founders of the Tucson 48-Hour Film Shootout. TFM hopes to expand it’s writing staff before an eventual print version of the magazine is released.
