K4 Publishing System Version 5.9 Supports CS3 Layout-in-Layout Functionality

01-17-2008 04:34 PM CET | IT, New Media & Software

Press release from: Managing Editor Inc.

Jenkintown, PA (January 15, 2008) – Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), an Adobe Systems portfolio company and a leading provider of software solutions for the publishing industry, today announced SoftCare K4 Publishing System Version 5.9. The latest update includes support for Creative Suite® 3’s ability to incorporate Adobe® InDesign® documents as complete layouts within other InDesign documents.

With K4’s new “layout-in-layout” functionality, designers are able to place InDesign documents from K4 into other InDesign documents as often as they like, including placing layouts in a hierarchical fashion. The new feature easily allows newspapers, for example, to repurpose centralized content when producing regional editions. It is also useful for the production and placement of advertisements; once ad layouts are complete, they can be used in several positions.

K4 5.9 also comes with the SoftCare Content Activator, a new InDesign plug-in that reactivates the contents of secured frames for further processing — for example, by freelancers or external printing service providers who need to access text frames locked using K4’s or Adobe’s InDesign story mechanism. SoftCare Content Activator is available as a free download at www.softcare.de.

The latest version also incorporates several suggestions from users to create an even more practical interface. Several items, such as pictures, Word files or Excel spreadsheets, can now be checked in and out at the same time using K4 File Manager. Similarly, K4 Admin now enables users to export items, such as layouts, articles or pictures, both for each edition and using a query. Additionally, the K4-Clients help function now offers direct access to K4 Quick Reference Cards.

K4 Web Importer 1.0.1 will be simultaneously released, as well as K4 XML Exporter 1.4.1.

Availability
K4 Version 5.9 will be available from MEI on February 1, 2008. All K4 customers on active maintenance agreements are eligible to receive a free upgrade to Version 5.9.
