Wind River Linux Platforms / Wind River Workbench / Wind River Remote Diagnostics and Device Management Solutions
At the trade fair Embedded World in Nuremberg, Wind River will show its latest generation of Wind River Linux as well as its Wind River Workbench 3.0 with significant enhancements to the company’s device software development tools. Wind River Linux is based on the 2.6.21 Linux kernel and will provide users with 64-bit application support, including tools for both kernel and user space debugging across all supported architectures. Wind River Linux will include an advanced cross-build system that incorporates a structured framework for managing device software components as independent “layers.” These layers act as building blocks for developers to manage and organize Linux packages; source code or binaries; metadata or configuration files; test suites, or even extra files. A new release of Wind River Real-Time Core for Linux will also be available. It will include support for numerous BSPs, including 64-bit targets across all architectures.
Enhancements for VxWorks include Symmetric Multi-processing support (SMP) and system and task mode debugging, performance profiling and function tracing across multiple cores. Wind River Linux specific enhancements include 64-bit target debug and analysis tools support as well as GCC 4.x and ARM compiler support.
Together with the Workbench, Wind River will also show Wind River Device Management, a solution for managing deployed devices that incorporates remote diagnos-tics services built around a scalable device management platform. Expanding Wind River’s DSO strategy to in-corporate post-development device management, the management suite includes Wind River Field Diagnostics, a remote diagnostics system, as well as Wind River Lab Diagnostics, a root cause analysis system with workgroup collaboration facilities. With Wind River’s Device Management suite, device manufacturers can remotely monitor, diagnose and repair deployed devices to provide faster delivery of higher-quality products, help increase competitive advantage and reduce customer operating costs.
Also on show will be Wind River On-Chip Debugging for Manufacturing and Test, a standards-based offering that allows test and manufacturing engineers to diagnose hardware problems on the manufacturing floor. OCD for Manufacturing and Test combines the on-chip debugging-based development solutions with specific test and manufacturing tooling and pre-integration with the National Instruments (NI) LabVIEW platform and development environment. It includes Wind River ICE and Wind River Probe emulator products, Wind River On-Chip Debugging API and Utility JTAG testing solution, and the NI LabVIEW Virtual Instrument Driver. When used collectively, the solution enables manufacturing organizations to streamline the testing process in manufacturing.
