Alibaba Partners with Menusifu Inc. to Bring the Popular Mobile Payment System Alipay to U.S. Restaurants

07-27-2016 09:34 AM CET | IT, New Media & Software

Press release from: Menusifu Inc.

New York, NY---China’s Alibaba subsidiary, Ant Financial Services Group, has established a long term partnership with Menusifu Inc. to enter the U.S. restaurant market with the mobile payment application Alipay. Alipay is widely used within China and functions as a combination of PayPal and Apple Pay. New York based point-of-sales software developer, Menusifu Inc. is offering this capability to a selected number of clients within their portfolio of restaurants throughout the United States. Patrons of restaurants equipped with Menusifu’s POS line can now pay their bills directly through the Alipay app, which withdraws the check amount from their connected personal bank accounts or credit cards.

With the increase in spending from Chinese consumers within the U.S., Alipay and Menusifu are bridging the mobile payment gap with the introduction of this joint venture. Chinese tourists, business travelers, and international students are growing target segments for restaurants. Menusifu and Ant Financial seek to attract more these potential customers. Their goal is to provide a familiar and convenient dining experience for Chinese consumers similar to what they are used to experiencing in their homeland.

In China, it was standard for restaurant staff to bring a portable POS terminal to individual tables and allow diners to swipe their cards themselves. However, mobile self payment has grown in popularity and has become a major payment option in China due to its convenience factor. The mobile payment adaptation rate among Chinese smartphone users far overshadows their western counterparts.

Menusifu saw the growing need and potential in providing consumers and restaurants in the U.S. with mobile pay options like Alipay. “We understand what the dining experience is like in China, and wanted to replicate the bill paying experience in the U.S. for the Chinese consumer,” says Menusifu CEO William Wang. With Menusifu’s latest POS software, a unique QR code is generated and printed on each receipt. Diners equipped with the Alipay app on their smartphones can scan the code and pay directly with Chinese digital currency. They also have the option to split the bill and leave tips within the app. All payment information is uploaded directly to the restaurant’s POS terminal, alerting the servers that the bill has been paid.

Initially, Menusifu will implement Alipay within strategically selected restaurants in New York City and California, where there is a high demand for this payment option. Menusifu plans to outfit more restaurants with Alipay in the coming months, as U.S. consumers adapt to the growing digital payment trend. Alibaba is projected to expand Alipay to thousands of U.S. restaurants, service shops, and retailers in the coming years.

Menusifu is a leading POS software developer that utilizes data and operational insights to provide actionable solutions to restaurants. Menusifu builds comprehensive operation management systems, including supply chain, staff coordination, and customer relationship management tools. All platforms and apps connects seamlessly with a multi-level POS ecosystem, providing an easy to understand experience for staff and customers.
