(openPR) - Continuing investment exemplifies modular approach to BSM based on integration with existing IT management tools

McLEAN, Va., and Beijing, China – January 8, 2007 – Managed Objects, the Business Service Management (BSM) Company, today announced that PetroChina has purchased additional software licenses and professional services from the vendor’s BSM portfolio. PetroChina is expanding its use of Managed Objects, which integrates and consolidates disparate data sources from existing multi-vendor IT management tools and maps IT infrastructure to business-focused IT services on a single “pane of glass.” This provides customers such as PetroChina with the benefit of reducing the time it takes to diagnose and fix IT outages, by up to 50 percent or more.

Today’s announcement marks the third time PetroChina, which produces two-thirds of China’s oil and gas, has invested in Managed Objects software since May 2006. PetroChina originally selected Managed Objects after an extensive evaluation of several leading BSM vendors in the market. Ultimately, the company selected Managed Objects on the basis of its strength in integration and visualization – that is, producing flexible, rich, role-based dashboards.

“BSM has become important for IT organizations that need to understand the impact IT availability and performance have on the IT services they provide the business. BSM tools take feeds from multiple event sources, which has essentially created a manager-of-managers role for the BSM tool,” wrote Gartner analyst David Williams in an August 2007 report titled Polling Results Provide a View of IT Operations Availability and Performance Management Needs and Expectations. “Few clients want to see availability and performance data without a way to understand the impact it has on the business. Therefore, many are factoring in a BSM-type tool into their availability and performance management investment plans.”

PetroChina’s initial implementation used Managed Objects unmatched strength in multi-vendor integration to correlate data sources from systems and network tools, including HP OpenView Operations and Network Node Manager, and to translate it into information about business impact. In this way, PetroChina was able to simultaneously consolidate multiple IT management tools without losing the value of those existing investments.

Several months later, PetroChina purchased another integration adapter for Microsoft Operations Manager as well as implementing Managed Objects Service Level Manager to accurately measure and report on application and IT service level quality in real-time and over time. Today’s expanded licensing and additional professional services agreement underscores PetroChina’s initiative aimed at capitalizing on early successes and rolling out its BSM implementation further across PetroChina’s nation-wide facilities in 11 major regions with more than 200-pluse sites.

“PetroChina’s BSM initiative is an exemplary role model for any global IT organization considering a BSM project,” said Chua Tock-ling General Manager, for Managed Objects’ Asia Pacific Region. “While many organizations struggle to ‘boil the ocean,’ PetroChina’s approach has been a well-conceived, modular and methodical approach to implementing BSM step-by-step. Managed Objects is proud to count PetroChina among our growing and impressive roster of global customers.”
