Although he pastors Bethany Baptist Church, a 27,000 member church in Lindenwold, NJ, is a best-selling author, moving over 400,000 copies of his debut writing Healed Without Scars, is seen weekly on the Trinity Broadcast Network and Black Entertainment Television, and is a Billboard charting recording artist, Evans is transforming people’s lives through his profound and atypical teaching on money.
Prior to entering ministry, Evans obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. Previously holding bank positions such as Vice President of Commercial Real Estate Lending and Assistant Bank Vice President, Evans was given authority to approve million dollar loans. Now Senior Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church and CEO of the Abundant Harvest Fellowship of Churches (including 175 churches in the United States, Africa, and India), he’s bringing a new mindset of financial empowerment and business acumen to the church.
In his recent DVD series called “Money Is My Friend”, Evans clearly states his mission. Knowing that the lack of finances can stall even the best plans, he declares, “I want to awaken the sleeping financial giant that’s on the inside of God’s people. I want to awaken that place of faith that’s been dead. I want to wake up that idea, that witty invention that God put in your spirit. When people look at Bill Gates, they see money. But what they don’t see is that Gates didn’t start with money, he started with an idea. The right thought attracts the right support.”
Although it’s not uncommon to hear preachers tout the “prosperity gospel”, few pastors can speak on the subject with an economic and business background. Putting his money where his mouth is, Evans is President and CEO of Generations, Inc., a non-profit community development corporation and directs an operation of a $7 billion home ownership initiative program. He has a goal of home ownership for every member of his church and Generations, Inc., a faith-based mortgage lending company, is licensed in almost all 50 states. He’s also developed strategic partnerships with J.P. Morgan, Chase Bank, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Federal Reserve and Housing and Urban Development. He’s spearheaded building projects including the Harvest Senior Housing Center, Harvest Recreation Center, and Next Generation Medical Center.
