The Wireless LAN of the future - 802.11n products from DIGITUS®

DIGITUS® can with immediate effect supply its customers with the complete range of 802.11n Draft 2.0 products. These broadband routers, PCI adapters, cardbus adapters and USB 2.0 adapters are equipped with the advanced MIMO technology to the Wireless LAN standard 802.11n Draft 2.0.

With DIGITUS® products using this technology, data transfer rates of up to 300 Mbps can be achieved, and the data throughput, range and reliability significantly improved in comparison to previous standards.

The 802.11n Draft 2.0 series from DIGITUS® affords the user stable connections and high bandwidth, in order to enjoy multimedia applications on the network without interruptions. All products are compatible with the previous standard IEEE 802.11g/b.

The DIGITUS® broadband router DN-7059 supports 64/128-bit encryption, as well as WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK security, and is suitable for used in all common network environments. NAT/NAPT IP Sharing, Anti-DOS Firewall and a virtual server / DMZ are also integrated.

The bandwidth requirements of multimedia applications are fulfilled by support of the WMM function. Equipped with MIMO technology, the router also supports Port Triggers, DDNS (DyDNS, TZO) and VPN Passthrough (IPSec/PPTP). The DIGITUS® router is configured via a Web User interface, which can also be carried out via remote access. Further convenient features of the DIGITUS® router include an integrated DHCP server and updateable firmware. Power is supplied by a 12 V PSU, which is also included in the package.

The three possible adapters for the 802.11n Draft 2.0 Standard are equipped by Digitus with status LEDs for connection and data transfer. The DN-7056PCI card, the DN-7051 cardbus adapter and the USB 2.0 adapter are provided with driver software for Windows 2000/XP/XP64/Vista.

The recommended end-customer price is €84.90 for the DN-7059 router, €61.90 for the DN-7056 PCI card, €64.90 for the DN-7053 USB adapter and €64.90 for the DN-7051 cardbus adapter.

Demand and use have both increased steadily since the introduction of Wireless LAN technology in the 1990’s. Since 2005, more laptops have been sold annually in the EU than desktop computers – most of which have built-in Wireless LAN chips.

And Wireless LAN technology does not stop at computers. Many electronic entertainment devices are today equipped with Wireless LAN capability, and are therefore able to exchange data between each other, with computers or over the Internet, with the trend on the increase.

Until the publication of the new 802.11n Draft 2.0 Standard, the major disadvantages were the slow data transmission rates and the short range within the building of approx. 10 m. The radio connections were also subject to interference and not secure against interception and tapping.

Since the introduction of the Wireless LAN Standard IEEE 802.11n Draft 2.0 developed by a total of 27 companies in the summer of 2007, users can achieve a basic transmission rate of 300 Mbps. In the long term, the standard will replace the current usual 802.11g Draft 2.0 Standard of only 54 Mbps. The adoption of the definitive standard, which will be fully compatible with the Draft 2.0, is expected in 2008/2009.
