Metal Sorters to Maximize Scrap $Value: Innov-X Debuts Automated XRF Sorting, Extracting & Separating Systems
Press release from: Innov-X Systems
PR Agency: Armada Group
(openPR) - QXR Series is designed to improve recoveries and increase asset value for metal recyclers.
Woburn, MA, December 8, 2007---Innov-X Systems announces the new high-volume sorting and separating systems—the QXR-Series for metal recycling. The fully-automated, high-volume
QRX-M (Metals) version positively identifies and sorts mixed-metal scrap into product-specific categories based on highly specific material chemistry. They are accurate on clean, wet, dry, dirty or coated material. Ideal applications for the QXR-M include:
• Extracting Cu (or Cu alloys) from heavies
• Sort Al product by alloy content
• Clean and grade stainless steel
• Meatball extraction
• Coin and precious metal extraction
• Plastics, glass and more
Based on proven X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technology, the QXR-M offers many key advantages over physical-property based techniques:
• Highly accurate sorting – typically >95%
• Highly efficient separation - >90%
• Highest value product in one pass - no reprocessing
• User defined capacities – 1 TPH to greater than 150 TPH
All of the QXR systems are designed to maximize cost effectiveness with a fast return on investment. Industrially hardened and reliable, they afford a low cost of ownership and are engineered with flexibility in mind:
• Quick on-site software modifications to meet changing criteria and new market demands
• Pricing as individual components or complete turnkey systems
• Each system is custom designed specifically to your process configuration
• Wide variety of conveyors, feeders and diverters to meet performance needs
• Integrates nicely with or can replace your current technologies - eddy current, magnetic separation, induction systems, heavy media separators, flotation devices, hand sorting, etc.
• Upgradeable to accommodate changes in application, capacity and accuracy
A typical QXR system uses a conveyor-mounted XRF spectrometer with a material sensing camera. The camera senses material, while the XRF device determines its elemental composition. The system, through defined data parameters, actuates one of the downstream diverter mechanisms—all precisely synchronized via high performance PLC technology. The material is accurately directed to the appropriate collection bin or belt conveyor.

About Innov-X Systems
Innov-X Systems is a vital force in the x-ray fluorescence (XRF) industry. Their systems perform fast, accurate analysis in seconds to identify, differentiate and quantify most materials by elemental composition. Founded in 2001, they pioneered handheld XRF instrumentation using a miniature x-ray tube rather than radioactive isotopes. Innov-X has rapidly expanded into many other XRF areas. Innov-X has rapidly expanded into many other XRF areas. In the area of border security, their client list includes the Department of Energy for Nuclear Non-proliferation inspections, the US Customs Service for testing imported products, and the US Food and Drug Administration for testing food-related products for metals contamination. Other products include the new SEA-Mate™ System for marine on-board fluids analysis; Mobile X-50, a portable XRF that in comparison to handheld units, delivers higher power and superior performance throughout the periodic table. Innov-X has also taken a leading position in custom XRF and online/automated XRF instrumentation.
With R&D and manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Innov-X has offices in Europe (the Netherlands), Middle East (Dubai), and Asia (Hong Kong). They maintain sales and service alliances in Canada, the Middle East, Latin America, and worldwide. Service, installation and training is available in over 100 countries. Innov-X Systems provides free training to all their customers for the life of their instruments.
