(openPR) - Brooklyn, New York -- December 4, 2007 -- The Brighton Ballet Theater / School of Russian Ballet presents a holiday performances of “A Winter Fairy Tale,” an original ballet based on the timeless story of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. The production is a part of the Annual Children’s Theatre Festival held in Kingsborough at the Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Choreographed by Edouard Kouchnarev, a new generation Russian choreographer who has danced and choreographed throughout the world, "A Winter Fairy Tale" is a charming introduction to ballet and to the classic tale of The Nutcracker created especially for children. In spectacular costumes, dancers from the Brighton Ballet Theater's professional and junior companies recreate that magical night when a young girl sees the Nutcracker and other toys come to life in her living room.
There will be two public performances:
Saturday, December 8, 2:00 PM
Sunday, December 9, 2:00 PM
"This is a time for the community to come together," said Vladimir Lepisko, Coordinator for BBT. "What better time to do so, than with a magical event the whole family can enjoy".
BBT's version of the Nutcracker departs from the usual winter fairy tale that is seen in American ballet theatres. "Our productions are highly supported by the New York multicultural community," said Irina Roizin, President of BBT. "This production will portray the beautiful international diversity of New York with dances representing the countries of Spain, Nigeria, China, India, France and Russia. The ballet culminates in the Land of Freedom rather than the traditional Land of Sweets."
Leading roles will be performed by Mari Sugawa, Yelena Malinina, Vitaly Verterich, Alex Anatska, Simon Shargo, Mikhail Nesterenko, Oleg Serban, Mama Dou Dahoue (African Dance), Kristin Ganesh (Eastern/Indian Dance), Dorothy Silver, and Artem Ovsiy with supporting roles danced by advanced students of the BBT/ School of Russian Ballet and members of the Junior Company.
