Looking for Lateral Thinkers! - Interdisciplinary Thinking as a Success Factor

Press release from: Knürr AG
PR Agency: Hochleiter PR und Werbung GmbH
The Deutsche Wirtschaftsingenieurtag 2007 (German Industrial Engineers Day) is considered the interdisciplinary management congress for decision-makers and lateral thinkers in the industrial sector. And it has certainly lived up to its reputation! Knürr AG was the event’s main sponsor, and sent its CTO, Dr. Peter Koch, to set the challenging pace. Dr. Koch’s lecture dealt with energy efficiency in data centers.

“Innovators, lateral thinkers, trend setters and stimulus providers continuously create completely new perspectives and provide fresh food for thought”, pointed out Ulf Pleissner, representing the organizers, the Association of German Industrial Engineers, in a discussion with Knürr Marketing Director, Werner Gropp. The two-day event was organized for the precise purpose of redefining strategic and interdisciplinary exchanges of knowledge and information, and thereby successfully securing crucial advantages.

In today’s world it is inconceivable that one would not look beyond the horizon, consider already experienced problems from new viewpoints, and free oneself from the past wherever possible. Insulated management thinking is long a thing of the past! These days of global change demand new forms of lateral and forward thinking.

Professor Dr. Christian Schuchardt, President of the Association explains: “Interdisciplinary thinking today is far more than just a success factor for modern management in the technical-financial networked area of activity. We must keep up with the continuous developments in technology, finance, global networking and structural change!” The congress, which was held in an absolutely perfect venue, “BMW World”, was all about learning from the best in the two joint fields of activity, i.e. technology and management: Elite speakers, the proven specialists in their respective fields of knowledge, gave plenary speeches providing insights into the latest developments and strategies in companies today.

An excited buzz filled the large hall with an audience of 350 as Dr. Peter Koch, Knürr AG CTO, illustrated how a server’s power consumption will soon cost more in its limited lifetime than its actual purchase price!
Dr. Koch made the audience only too aware of the enormous amount of energy consumption by headlining his speech with the question – “How much IT can the earth take?” With provocative theses backed up with numerous facts, the Knürr expert effectively emphasized the requirement for intelligent measures for energy efficiency in data center environments. At the end of the day as Dr. Koch put it so pragmatically, one’s own electricity bill is one’s best consultant – especially now that such sensitivity to cost has been established.

And lo and behold! A whole hoard of people ranging from students to top business leaders gathered at the Knürr AG stand, to be competently and entertainingly advised by Stephan Nagel, Gerhard Bumeder, Dr. Peter Koch and Werner Gropp.
