Bundled hardware and software solutions simplify the path to immediate adoption and innovative application development

Kontron, a global leader in Embedded Computing Technology and Wind River today announced that they have formed a strategic partnership to deliver integrated solutions for the industrial, medical, communications, and aerospace & defense markets. These bundled hardware and software solutions provide a more simplified process to customers for developing on top of a commercial embedded computer, reducing both cost and time-to-market. Further, the partnership reinforces each company's commitment to creating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies that will enable device developers to spend valuable time on innovation and differentiation.

Through this agreement, Kontron and Wind River will provide multiple deployment options, offering a simplified path for embedded computer adoption with hardware and software solutions, and accelerating application development for next generation Linux and VxWorks platforms. Customers can buy fully integrated, tested and validated solutions from one vendor without the hassle of dealing with two or more different third parties and with the benefits of each bundled component supported by industry leaders. These bundles include validated HW platform solutions based on CompactPCI, AdvancedMC and MicroTCA along with VxWorks and WR Linux supporting the latest multi-core technology. WR Carrier-Grade Linux for multi-core technology is provided on AdvancedTCA and AdvancedMC platform elements and AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA Open Modular Platforms (OMPs). From Q1 2008 on we will have further announcements of the latest Multi-core validated HW platforms based on VxWorks 6.6 SMP and WR Linux 2.0.

"Without this type of partnership, customers must go through the process of evaluating, negotiating, integrating and testing each component to create a working system, which ties up valuable resources and can add months to a development schedule," said Vincent Rerolle, vice president of corporate development and strategy, Wind River. "Wind River and Kontron's relationship offers a powerful one-stop shop with bundled hardware and software solutions from the two market leaders that cover the sphere of vertical markets."

"The more time a customer can spend on differentiating their application, the greater the return on investment. Wind River and Kontron's alliance will deliver platform solutions that provide customers the opportunity to go further up the differentiation curve," said Norbert Hauser, vice president of marketing, Kontron. "Customers will gain significant time-to-market advantages, the ability to focus on innovation and differentiation and the assurance that their solution will be fully supported by industry leading suppliers."
