Designing success: the rise of 2RISE®

It all started in a small flat, part of a warehouse, near Munich, Germany. It was so small there was barely enough room to get their daring design idea off the ground. They only had a few old computers, and very little money, and the banks wouldn't go near them.

But they had one essential ingredient. That ingredient was hope - bucketfuls of it – and a dizzying dream they wanted to turn into a concrete reality. After all, at the beginning of any venture, that's what counts more than anything; it's the driving force and passion that gets something off the ground and keeps it going until it becomes a true success story.

Three short years in business later, that's what 2RISE (design2rise.com) has become, working with blue-chip companies, governments and agencies everywhere to create striking next-generation multimedia applications with futuristic 3D technology that captures people's attention and dazzles them. As the company's founders say, “Lots of people wrap their design around technology. We wrap technology around design.”

Who are those entrepreneurs? They are Dennis Schäfer, who quickly admits to being mad about designing interfaces, and Tassilo Hopf, a specialist in realtime 3D design. With their new venture established in 2012, the pair set about developing ways to create stunning content using visuals that look like they come straight from the future – something people will probably have never seen before and setting the new design firm far ahead of its long-established rivals.

"We cannot travel through time and take you into the future, but we can bring a piece of future to you," says Schäfer.

Indeed, so arresting has the company’s output been that it has been praised by its peers in the industry. 2RISE was an iF Design Award winner in 2014 and has been nominated for the German Design Award 2015. That's for a project called The Future Room, developed for the Arab Media Forum in 2014 and on behalf of the Dubai government. It's essentially an interactive touchscreen crammed with all sorts of media, from images to video to what's happening on the internet in realtime.

Is this a visionary company? Definitely. According to the founders, it's all about emotion and melding it with a futuristic UI to create a whole new and thrilling experience for the viewer. It even goes beyond that, to "awakening deep emotions", the company says. The vivid interactive displays are mostly used for large-scale exhibitions, showrooms, shows and other events with lots of people attending, and the company says it's delighted to bring what Hollywood does with CGI movies into the realm of business and the ordinary person.

Today, 2RISE is busier with major clients than ever before, and has never had any support from the banks. The firm now enjoys a far roomier office – still in Munich – than where it began its life and has set its sights on ever-greater levels of success, far into the future. It’s all testament to the ambition, drive and swift achievements of a young company making innovative design waves all around the world.
