ASM CUSTOMS SOFTWARE DELIVERS SAD H FUNCTIONALITY

Press release from: Agency Sector Management

Agency Sector Management (ASM) has released Version 11.1 of GeMS, providing users with full compliance for the SAD Harmonisation changes to be implemented from 1st October by HM Revenue & Customs.

GeMS (Global E- cargo Management System) provides users with an integrated cargo management solution, including a consistent interface for import and export processing and all documentation.

ASM’s chairman Peter MacSwiney says: “SAD H implementation will commence on 1st October 2007 and HMRC will allow dual running of both old and new type Customs declarations until midnight on the 20th January 2008.

“After extensive, real time Beta Trials involving many of our Users, version 11.1 of GeMS is now moving to general release with all the SAD H Customs functionality in place. This staged release programme gives our Users the opportunity to confidently experience the new software and familiarise their staff with the new procedures as they are implemented.

“We are obviously pleased that HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) will maintain its decision to adopt a phased transition when implementation occurs. As we have continually represented to the authorities, it is only by allowing dual running of the old and new systems that communities will be able to efficiently migrate to the new procedures. This generates confidence, minimises risk and avoids difficulties.”

The launch of Release 11.1 of GeMS confirms ASM’s mission to provide a “one-stop” suite of software solutions to the UK freight forwarders. As a non-profit making organisation, owned by the GeMS Users, the company is uniquely positioned to deliver cost effective and efficient systems to the UK freight agents, enabling them to meet their customers’ demanding expectations and gain peace of mind from the compliance focused tools.

ASM also recently announced that it is already developing its next generation of freight forwarding solutions. With the initial release scheduled for the third quarter of 2009, ASM’s Sequoia Project will be the company’s flagship product and take full advantage of the most recent technological advances.

“The European freight and logistics industry is on the brink of massive changes”. Explains Peter MacSwiney; “The move to a harmonised Single Administrative Document (SAD H) and the changes being introduced as part of the EU Multi Annual Strategic Plan (MASP), represent the start of a paradigm shift in compliance issues for any company involved in global trade and international supply chains.

“Most of the changes are linked to EU initiatives under the general heading of Electronic Customs Systems and Projects and all have a bearing on computer software requirements. Under the project name Sequoia, ASM will further consolidate its position as the leading provider of freight software by addressing directly the implications of the forthcoming changes.”

ASM has scheduled Sequoia for release, at no additional cost to GeMS, in time for the 2009 introduction of the EU-wide pre-arrival and pre-departure (PAPD) security declarations.
