Type History Master Classes - 2-6 October 2007 Milan and Parma

Type History Master Class represents a unique opportunity to appreciate and enjoy the history of printed letterforms in the company of James Mosley and James Clough, two of the world’s foremost typographic authorities
Type History Master Classes provides 5 days of lectures, library visits, punch cutting and type casting demonstrations - plus a walking tour of typographic Rimini!
Under the expert guidance of Mosley and Clough, delegates will be invited to listen to lectures on the evolution of type from 15th-century Mainz to Didot and Bodoni and watch punchcutting demonstrations by Madame Nelly Gable, maître-graveur and conservateur of the Cabinet des Poinçons at the Imprimerie Nationale, Paris.
Highlights of the Master Classes include visits to: the Braidense and Trivulzana libraries, Milan, where delegates can view the work of Fust & Schoeffer, Sweynheym & Pannartz, Jenson, Manutius, Estienne, Baskerville, Fournier and Bodoni accompanied by the informed commentaries of Mosley and Clough. In addition there will be a guided visit to the Museo Bodoniano, Parma followed by a type casting demonstration by James Mosley using Bodoni’s original matrices.
To round off the event, there will be a walking tour in Rimini to look at Roman and Renaissance inscriptions including: Arco d’Augusto, the Ponte Tiberio, and the Tempio Malatestiano with Leon Battista Alberti’s inscriptions.
Fee: € 450,00 (all-inclusive, except travel expenses, accommodation and meals)
Participation is limited to 15 persons.
