Rapid growth: Data centers of First Colo among the “Deloitte

Frankfurt on the Main, November 25, 2013 - At this year's “Deloitte Technology Fast 50” contest First Colo GmbH from Munich was, for the first time, among the 50 honorees due to its impressive turnover growth of 256 percent in the business years from 2008 to 2012. First Colo as an operator of several high-availability data centers is one of Germany’s 50 technology companies with the highest growth. Deloitte held the award presentation in honor of the 50 highest-turnover achievers on November 7, 2013 at the Dusseldorf Kesselhaus.

The award ceremony by the auditor Deloitte distinguishes those German companies, for example from the fields of IT, communications and life sciences, that have positioned themselves in recent years in future-oriented technology fields and have also grown rapidly in the process. As in the previous years, Deloitte once again assessed the percentage of companies’ turnover growth over the last five years in order to determine the frontrunners of Germany’s technology industry.

“We are pleased about our placement among Germany's “Fast 50”,” explains Martin Verges, one of the two managing directors of First Colo. “Since 2007, i.e. six years after the founding of the company, we have grown into a solid German Oak, metaphorically speaking – but we are, of course, growing much faster than these highly symbolic and impressive trees. The years from 2008 to 2012 involved a great deal of work and were characterized by the successful strategy of providing tailored managed services for our customers.”

The evening was a testament to entrepreneurs such as Martin Verges and his managing director colleague Jerome Evans, showing that they had succeeded in consistently following their vision due to their willingness to take risks and their entrepreneurial spirit. Companies such as First Colo will continue to exhibit strong growth rates even in difficult economic times. In contrast to the policies of major corporations, growth “generated from and by itself” and earning recommendations from premium customers were matters of priority. “We realize that especially IT- and Internet companies have been exceptionally successful this year,” says Dr. Andreas Gentner, partner and head of technology, media & telecommunications (TMT) at Deloitte. “The growing trend toward digital mobility is the reason for this; it shows that some of the most impressive drivers of innovation hail from the German IT industry. The main emphasis is on B2B products with a focus on infrastructure and IT security solutions.”

Deloitte USA started the Fast 50 program in 1995, which has in the meantime grown to an international initiative. For eleven years Deloitte Germany has been honoring outstanding performances in the technology industry. The award has established itself worldwide as a quality seal for entrepreneurial success in the technology industry.

“The service- and support requirements of medium-sized companies are often not compatible with the “call center mentality” of large-scale cloud providers. Therefore, there is still a lot of work to be done in the future to actuate other growth potentials in various industries with our services. We are trying to implement all customer demands in a fair cost structure within our high-availability cluster ─ from monitoring of all network processes to various DDoS protection solutions. Due to the resulting above-average demand, we are currently expanding our data center substantially,” says Verges.

First Colo GmbH offers fail-safe IT infrastructure for 24-h business processes. Malfunctions in the network technology usually result in material or immaterial damages or loss of turnover in the best case scenario. The fact that more and more expanding companies, especially from the e-commerce sector, are docking at the safe IT harbor that is First Colo makes the data center operator the ideal solution for small- and medium sized businesses since the structural IT requirements of these companies must continually adapt to growth processes in a flexible manner.
