Exceptional Key Indicator Analysis

Vienna | Reutlingen, October 23rd, 2013 – At the start of 2012, the experienced mechanical engineering company Manz began a comprehensive SRM project with their solution partners POOL4TOOL in order to improve the performance of their global purchasing organization. The focal point of this project was the implementation of a complex key indicator system. Recurring processes in tactical purchasing were also re-engineered and the Manz Group’s heterogeneous system landscape was integrated and refined. The Austrian Association for Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics (BMÖ) recognized the successful project with an award at the “Austrian Purchasing Forum 2013”.

The analysis of indicators is a core responsibility of strategic purchasing. In order to recognize risks and potentials presented by suppliers as early as possible, a company must have a uniform database and the appropriate evaluation tools. Heterogeneous system landscapes, for example, when compiling data from different departments and locations, present a challenge to informative reporting about the purchasing department. Early in 2012, Manz began working with the solution provider, POOL4TOOL, to address these challenges within their own company. “Manz was seeking a platform that would include everything that a purchaser needs on a daily basis. We were able to offer them support by providing a main information and data hub,” explains Thomas Dieringer, CEO of POOL4TOOL.

The high-tech mechanical engineering company developed a complex indicator system that is now available for analysis via POOL4TOOL. Manz also worked with their solution partners to re-engineer their recurring purchasing processes in tactical purchasing and to integrate the Manz Group’s heterogeneous system landscape. The company was able to save more than 30 % on processing costs simply by automating the ordering process. The completely automated RFQ process is now conducted using POOL4TOOL and can be fully integrated with ERP. The process is fully transparent, well-structured and replicable for all participants. RFQ’s that include multiple countries and that require data exchanges are now possible via the web-based portal. By implementing a uniform supplier registration and qualification process, Manz was able to quickly compile a supplier database in Asia, where the company is also represented and where they procure local products. All purchasing managers worldwide can access the system, which makes internal business much easier. Manz chose POOL4TOOL because of the holistic purchasing solution they are able to provide, and because of the company’s ability to address, implement and improve simple operative issues, as well as more complex strategic ones.

This successful project won recognition at the “Austrian Purchasing Forum 2013.” The Austrian Association for Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics (BMÖ) honored Manz and POOL4TOOL in the Purchasing category. The celebratory presentation of the award took place in the House of Industry in Vienna. Heinz Pechek, the Chairman of the BMÖ, Dr. Johann Günther, a professor at the Jianghan University in China, and Dr. Christian Haring, the Director of Supply Chain Management at AVL List, all made laudatory remarks about the project. Leif Schmidt, the Purchasing Manager at Manz, and Andreas Marek, the Senior Account Manager at POOL4TOOL jointly accepted the award.
