Review: Software Asset Management Strategies Award 2013

we.CONECT congratulates the winners of the SAMS EUROPE AWARD 2013
for the best implementation of an enterprise-wide software asset and license management strategy!

In the framework of the Software Asset Management Strategies Europe 2013 conference from September, 26 – 27 in Berlin, we.CONECT bestowed for the second time running the award for the best SAM & SLM project in Europe – THE SAMS EUROPE AWARD 2013.

The winners of the SAMS EUROPE AWARD 2013 were:

1. Deutsche Post DHL – Group Wide License Management
2. HCL Technologies – Software Asset Management across HCL
3. Century Link – CenturyLink Qwest Merger

More than 100 participants attended the award ceremony that took place in the special ambience of the MARITIM proArte Hotel in Berlin. In the evening of the first conference day, the award was presented by we.CONECT and Monika Ryglewska from OMV Solutions GmbH/ Austria. They stressed the importance of the SAMS EUROPE AWARD:

“we.CONECT created a unique platform for the SAM community in Europe where the efforts and innovations in this field are recognized and honored via the SAMS EUROPE AWARD !”

The projects that had to be submitted until August, 23 were evaluated, nominated and selected by an independent jury according to the following categories:
• Integrated strategies / overall project execution
• New SAM / SLM- tool / -software / -program
• Strategic or process-related innovation

The representatives of each nominated project held a short presentation to give the audience a brief insight into their SAM & SLM strategies. Finally, Deutsche Post DHL won the prize for the best project due to their excellent technical solution for the inventory of servers. Mr. Stockmeier received the award, acting for his team. In second place was HCL Technologies for the integral alignment of their project approach; and winner of the third place was CenturyLink, represented by Kimberly Johnson, and praised for financial and qualitative outcome of the project. Further finalists were T-Systems, another Deutsche Post DHL project as well as DHL CZ.

The jury was composed of the following members:
• Rajiv Gupta, Senior Manager / Business Process Lead- Governance, Risk, Compliance (GRC) & SAP Security, Coca-Cola Ltd.
• Michael Baumann, VP Global Programs Infrastructure & Service Management, DHL Management Schweiz AG
• Sabine Meyer, Software License Manager, Corporate Information, Systems - Controlling (CII), MAN Truck & Bus AG

On behalf of we.CONECT and the three winners, the prize money of € 2,000 was donated to Sonnenhof, a children’s hospice organized by the Björn Schulz foundation. The hospice located in the suburban area of Berlin provides incurable children a last, lovely home. In the name of the foundation, Thomas Abele and Claudia Thomas received the donation after they showed impressive pictures of their work.
