(openPR) - On 1 September 2007, the acceptance of entries ends for the 1st Annual Architecture & Design Competition in Second Life. An international jury will choose the most innovative projects at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria on 8 September 2007 from 2pm to 8pm. The jury will be public at the Architekturforum Linz, and it will be shown live on Second Life.
Jury members will include Pascal Schöning and Shumon Basar of the renowned Architectural Association in London, Tor Lindstrand from the Royal College of Technology in Stockholm, Michael Schirner from ZKM Karlsruhe, architecture curator Mathieu Wellner, and the founder of the competition, artist Stephan Doesinger.
The winners will be chosen from five categories: High-Rise Architecture, Private Homes, Commercial Architecture & V-Shopping, Landscape Design und Special Projects.
Between the jury's decision on 8 September and 25 October, Second Life participants will select the winner of the Public Prize from projects nominated by the jury. The winner will receive €1000. On 25 October, there will be an awards ceremony and party at the World Cultural Heritage Zollverein Essen, Germany.
In spring 2008 a high-quality publication will be released about the results of the competition with articles by specialists and experts from a wide range of fields.
The competition is supported by the French furniture producer Ligne Roset and the Munich Südhausbau. Avastar, the most important Second Life publication, is a media partner.
Entries can be submitted on the website www.sl-award.com until 1 September 2007.
The Initiator: Stephan Doesinger is a conceptual artist and architect living and working in Munich. He has held guest lectureships in the Design department at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna and at the Architectural Association in London. He has been the Art and Creative Director for many magazines, including, among others, Penthouse. His second book, "Learning from Sim City," will be published by Revolver Verlag inext month.
