EXASolution 4.2 by EXASOL completes the vision Logical data

New version impresses with its user-friendliness, and optimises big data analyses

Nuremberg, 14 May 2013 – EXASOL AG, the manufacturer of high-performance databases presents its new release, EXASolution 4.2. The main feature of the latest version is the MultiDimensional eXpressions (MDX) interface for complex OLAP queries and expansion of the EXAPowerlytics framework. With the open interface, virtually any number of external services and systems can be integrated directly into SQL queries and run on the high-performance cluster. Moreover, EXASOL has made the EXAPowerlytics Hadoop integration service available with which large quantities of unstructured data from Hadoop systems (big data) can be combined extremely flexibly, and natively interlocked with the high performance and master data in EXASolution. These innovations make the vision of a logical data warehouse in which a wide range of data sources and services can be linked and analysed in one single analysis layer a reality for companies. Only in this way can optimal use be made of the information available to enhance productivity, customer satisfaction and strategic decisions.

Areas of application
The advantages for users of EXASolution 4.2 are clear: customers’ churn behaviour can be analysed precisely and at the same time counteracted (churn management) by forecasting future developments (predictive analytics). Moreover, social media analyses can be comfortably linked with company data thanks to the EXAPowerlytics Hadoop integration service, allowing genuine value to be created from the social web. Last but not least, real-time analytics for interactive evaluation and the management of company processes are possible at all times to optimise processes or manage logistics.

EXASolution 4.2 features in overview:
• Expansion of the EXAPowerlytics framework
• MDX interface for the integration of OLAP tools
• Support for user priorities
• Time zone support

The OLAP Connector based on the MDX standard is primarily beneficial to users wishing to retain their familiar frontend and access detailed up-to-date data directly in their Excel environment without having to copy and save this locally. The assignment of priorities to users and roles means that the EXASolution system’s resource allocation can be optimally influenced. And last but not least, the introduction of time zones in EXASolution – in addition to the existing time stamp – caters to companies’ need for different time zones (fit for global companies).

Mathias Golombek, Head of R&D at EXASOL AG, says of the added value of the in-memory database: “EXASolution is characterised by three key features: it is speedy, smart and simple. In terms of our software’s performance, we have been unbeatable in the TPC-H benchmark* for many years now. Ingenious features such as the Hadoop integration service and implementation of programming language R mean we are popular with customers thanks to our clever additional tools – all of which offer extremely simple usability,” Golombek concludes.

Steffen Weissbarth, CEO at EXASOL AG, agrees with Golombek: “With EXASolution 4.2, we have once again taken a big step in the direction of a logical data warehouse. The possibility of linking unstructured data with traditional data, performing rapid searches and preparing the results for different specialist departments is essential for sound decision-making. With EXASolution 4.2, EXASOL offers its customers exactly the functions and tools they need to succeed in the age of big data.”

EXASolution 4.2 will be available from May 2013.
