Oscar envelope

Gmund, 21 February 2013 – The Oscar® is the film industry’s most important award. The whole world watches expectantly when decisions about best motion picture and best performers are announced.

As they do each year, Hollywood’s greatest stars will compete for the ardently desired golden boy. Austrian actor Christoph Waltz has good reason to be hopeful: he was nominated for his supporting performance in “Django Unchained”. Another by no means insignificant performer likewise comes from the Alpine region, or more specifically from a valley in Upper Bavaria: the golden envelope from Gmund Paper Mill at Lake Tegernsee. The papermakers at Lake Tegernsee will be very proud of their 24 handmade envelopes each time a star proclaims “and the winner is…” and then nervously opens an envelope to announce the name concealed inside it.

Official Academy Awards® designer Marc Friedland visited the Alpine papermakers in January at the Gmund Brand Convention. This meeting, which ranks among the most heavily frequented events of its kind, hosted representatives from Strenesse, Leica, BMW, Osram and over 350 other participants. “The paper has a marvellously shimmery gold colour. It looks glamorous and extraordinarily elegant. Touching its surface is a delightful experience. The texture is enthralling and enchanting”, says Marc Friedland in praise of the Gmund Treasury collection.

The papermakers from Gmund wish good luck to all the nominees and hope that each envelope will be taken into good hands this coming Sunday.
