Windeln.de: Business Intelligence system implemented in less than a week with Data Virtuality

Press release from: Data Virtuality GmbH

Windeln.de, Germany’s largest e-tailer for baby products has set a new speed record in implementing their new BI system, using the new „E-Commerce Data Suite”. The software, invented by Data Virtuality GmbH, builds on an automatic Data Warehouse that caters specifically to the needs of e-commerce companies.

E-Commerce Data Suite is an intelligent, automated data hub. It automatically connects the data from various data sources of a company and collects and processes it centrally. Afterwards, all data can be displayed by all desired analysis programs and user groups. The structure in which the data is stored is automatically decided by the application: Data Virtuality analyzes the user needs and then the program automatically chooses the fastest and most effective method for data storage. Due to the high degree of automation, this approach can work much faster than previous approaches.

The new product E-Commerce Data Suite can merge and integrate the data from the various source systems like Magento, MySQL, MongoDB or Microsoft Navision and others much faster and cheaper than traditional business intelligence projects – which is very important for a lot of e-commerce companies. In only one week a Data Warehouse was constructed automatically.
For Windeln.de this short time frame in implementing a centralized BI solution was crucial and decisive for choosing Data Virtuality. Tobias Helm, Head of Business Intelligence at Windeln.de: "Many companies claim that they build something automated – but we haven’t seen a solution like Data Virtuality before, that effectively merges all data from the source systems in only one week. Now we have access to all our data can use our IT resources more effectively than for data collection and extraction. "

Windeln.de: All company data is now available for analysis With more than 200,000 parents among its loyal customers, Windeln.de, is Germany’s largest online store for baby products. Windeln.de sells more than 2,500 packages and over 20,000 products every day. With the installation of E-Commerce Data Suite all data at Windeln.de is now centrally available and can be analyzed. Alexander Brand, CEO of Windeln.de: "Especially in this sector of tight margins it is important that we have a reliable and comprehensive analysis of all the data in our company - a large part of our commercial success depends on having the right data." Thanks to open data interfaces all possible data sources and all possible data consumers can be connected. For example, dashboards and sophisticated statistical analysis software can be connected, but as well Excel. Data from Google Analytics and Google AdWords is seamlessly merged and combined with data from a shop system or other sources. Therefore, there are no more limitations to analysis: You can include real-time data directly from the systems as well as the historical data collected by each system. For Windeln.de this meant that there was a long list of processes that could finally be improved after implementing the E-Commerce Data Suite: Lead times from order to delivery to the customer can be better measured, the profitability of marketing campaigns will become more transparent, statistical analysis of all company's existing databases are only possible as basket analysis and by bringing customer data together from SQL and NoSQL sources also allowed for the first full customer clustering.

E-commerce Data Suite is tailored specifically to the needs of the e-commerce community. Dr. Nick Golovin, CEO of Data Virtuality comments: "The amount of data that is available for e-commerce companies is increasing enormously, everybody knows that. The problem is only that the data is almost never neatly bundled and stored centrally, but most of the time distributed across many different systems - inside and outside the company. To bring all that data together with classical, manual Data Warehouse solutions is usually so expensive that no e-commerce company does it, and it’s also too slow and inflexible. Therefore, many companies are trying to get around with manual workarounds, like building their own makeshift BI back-end - leading to cumbersome and inflexible solutions. Data Virtuality savings over traditional data warehouse solutions amount to at least 60% and 80% of the cost and implementation time. This is possible because the software automatically adapts the data structure to the analysis requirements."
