The Configurator Database is the largest online collection of web-based customization tools. To provide a status quo of the world of online configurators cyLEDG Media has released the Configurator Database Report 2013. Its purpose is to help academics and companies interested in Mass Customization tools get an overview of the world of product configuration.
The Configurator Database Report 2013 contains 900 configurators which are categorized in 16 industries, from Apparel to Kids & Babies. Every configurator is listed with a full profile, containing a screenshot and a short assessment of six different criteria.
Also included in the report is a detailed evaluation of all collected data. It contains statistics about different variables in product configuration and gives insights on industries, countries, product types, visualization types, tutorials and user support. A large part of the evaluation deals with social media and interaction possibilities. Social media provides a wide variety of potentials which mass customizer can use. The report reveals how the configurators handle social media usage.
The Configurator Database Project was started in 2007 by cyLEDGE Media in Vienna. It was created with the aim to give an overview about the world of product configuration. Since 2007 a lot has changed – more than 400 new online configurators were launched, and in the same time many companies were driven out of the market.
Due to its amount of entries, the database is mentioned in various academic books, journals and websites. Many experts, journalists and companies doing mass customization use the database for informing themselves about latest trends and new start-ups in the dynamic field of mass customization.
