Stirred tanks are generally used for processes like powder dispersion, dissolution, leaching, crystallization, precipitation, adsorption, ion exchange, solid-catalyzed reaction, suspension polymerization etc. where solid-liquid contacting is important. In these processes, it is desired to have good solids suspension or drawdown so that the maximum surface area of the solids particle is available for reaction or mass transfer.
