(openPR) - Magdeburg, July 23, 2007 – Something is moving on the market for HF RFID Readers: metraTec RFID Solutions today presents its new QuasarMR1 – a multi protocol mid range HF RFID reader. With an RF power of 1.2 W its reading range is 30 to 40 cm (12-16”) given the right antenna. The reader has USB connectivity and optionally an Ethernet socket for applications requiring remote readers. Also included are 8 general purpose input / output pins that are freely programmable and allow e.g. using the reader as a multiplexer control unit or activating the reader by help of a light barrier. A further highlight of the device is its complete compatibility to the M1 reader modules by SkyeTek Inc. and its AURA platform which was licensed by metraTec. This allows completely transparent migration of existing software implementations to applications requiring substantially larger reading distances.
The QuasarMR1 is available in an industrial aluminium housing and as a credit card sized module for integration into OEM systems. The reader targets the library and document management market as well as the parcel logistics and automated inventory assessment (smart shelves) market. The reader is highly energy efficient due to its amplifier exceeding 85% efficiency. This allows using it in mobile applications where power conservation is mandatory. “We had very positive experience with the M1 module since it is small, reliable and extremely easy to program. The QuasarMR1 now gives customers the same positive experience in applications requiring more reading distance since the QuasarMR1 is 100% compatible to the M1 modules” explains Klaas Dannen, responsible for metraTec’s RFID business.
Distribution of the readers will be handled by metraTec directly, through a planned network of distributors and through Meshed Systems, a value added reseller in Munich, Germany. Meshed Systems is a well known system integrator and distributor for RFID systems and has been the official distributor for SkyeTek for the German speaking part of Europe since its inception in 2003. A European network of distributors is planned for the coming twelve months. The QuasarMR1 is available as of today.
