Adelphi’s First Green Expo to Showcase Sustainability
Press release from: Adelphi University
Adelphi University is pleased to announce the Green Expo 2012 on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Ave, Garden City, NY, 11530. This event, sponsored by Campus Sustainability Committee is part of Family Weekend at Adelphi from October 12- 14. Families who are visiting their students over the weekend are most welcome.
One of the most environmentally efficient campuses of the Northeast, Adelphi is striving now more than ever to make its lush 75 acres and 300,000 square feet of new buildings greener. This event will highlight some of the initiatives Adelphi has taken to promote a more green existence. Over 30 of the University’s vendors have been invited to showcase products, services, and resources which add to Adelphi’s sustainability commitment. All of Adelphi’s community will participate in their commitment to the environment including departments, student clubs, environmentally based organizations and even the children at the Early Learning Center. Also included will be free earth-friendly giveaways and the unveiling of promotional video “Adelphi Goes Green” produced by Justin Migaldi ‘13. One particular highlight of the event will be the showing of the film “One Water” on which our very own Dean Sam Grogg served as executive producer. A call to action on the global freshwater crisis, this 68 minute film first premiered at the 2008 Miami International Film Festival on February 22, 2008.
A member of the U.S Green Building Council, Adelphi University has made strong strides in its mission to be more green. Actions Adelphi has taken include the substitution of lady bugs for pesticides, offsetting its electricity with wind power, a 36% reduction in water usage through the instillation of water-efficient toilets, 10 filtered bottle filling stations to reduce the use of plastic and even our very own “Green Man” mascot spotted on campus serving as a reminder for our community to keep it green. For the first time, all of these initiatives will be incorporated into one all-day event.
A sought after example of keeping it green on campus Adelphi University has been the recipient of a plethora of environmental action accolades including NE-10 Conference Champs in the EPA Green Power Challenge, Princeton Review's Guide to 311 Green Colleges, Member of EPA's Green Power Leadership Club, Cool Schools List by the Sierra Club, Excellence in Green Information Technology by Computerworld, winner of the 2008 Regional Commuter Choice Outstanding Achievement Award by The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council and Long Island, and 2009 Clean Air NY Champion.

Your portal is fast, simple, and easy to use. Others may have more functions but they also demand more editing time, you have to preformat the text in order to achieve a good result etc.
