The Journal announced its list of finalists on September 6.

As the Triangle Business Journal explains, the CIO awards are meant to recognize and honor executive-level technology professionals who exemplify innovation in the development of technologies that create new business opportunities, drive growth, and streamline processes. Winners will be announced at a luncheon at Raleigh Marriott City Center on October 18, 2012.

“It’s a true honor to be counted among the high-caliber list of finalists selected by the Triangle Business Journals’s CIO Awards,” said Smith. “As someone who is passionate about the power of data and technology to pioneer new solutions for businesses and consumers, the award’s focus on innovation is especially gratifying.”

Smith, who joined 3 Birds as CTO in 2010, arrived with fifteen years of successful IT consulting and engineering experience. For eight years, he worked at Acxiom as a developer, analyst, architect, and manager, a job that took him all across Europe and Asia as he provided expertise in database solutions and developed customized technology solutions for global Fortune 1000 clients.
