Commercial Relocation Makes Hay in Olympic Summer

Commercial Relocation Makes Hay in Olympic Summer

The traditional summer upturn in commercial relocation saw early and unprecedented activity ahead of the London Olympics, according to John Mitchell, Managing Director of crate rental specialist, Pluscrates Ltd.

“Crate rental activity is a crude but effective indicator for commercial relocation. We added close to 100,000 crates to our working stock ahead of the London Olympics and, importantly, for others in the commercial moving business who saw a similar uplift, that’s great news for the industry as a whole,” said John.

Ian Studd, Commercial Director of leading commercial removals company Harrow Green said: “We had expected there would be a need to fulfil particular programmes of activity before the onset of the London Olympics with all of the logistical challenges that it would undoubtedly bring. But the actual levels of activity were for the most part, unheralded and somewhat unexpected. Such a level of activity was indeed a great fillip, not only for our own business but also for that of our competitors who saw their respective order books benefit.”

It is expected that displaced London commercial work will provide a late uplift after the closing of the Paralympics in September.

There is also encouraging news for the rest of the country from leading global financial information service Markit. The company reported in the spring that the nation’s builders saw new orders rise at the fastest rate in four-and-a-half years with growth across all construction areas – civil, commercial and housing. Their report went further suggesting that a more buoyant outlook among clients meant that business confidence for the next year hit a near two-year high.

Pluscrates is the fastest growing provider of returnable transit packaging (RTP), containers and packaging consumables in the United Kingdom, providing a premium crate rental service to the commercial relocation and facilities management markets, as well as to the domestic removals market.
